On the occasion of a (belated) eye test the optician identified Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) - i am age 90. She suggested I should consult an opthalmic surgeon and, following the excellent experience of our family with the 'Royal Eye Unit' at Kingston Hospital over the years, I contacted Miss Sivagnanavel who gave my an appointment at her next bi-weekly clinic for 6 p.m. At 6 p.m. 'on the dot' her nurse was waiting for me to put drops into my eyes and give me a thorough preliminary examination. Miss Sivignanavel then gave me a more detailed examination and diagnosed 'dry' AMD, particularly in the right eye. She explained the nature of the condition and the prognosis. She stresed the importance of checking regularly e.g. with an Amsler grid and assured me that she would see me immediately should I notice any change in the condition. She advised me regarding diet and food supplements and backed this up by giving me a copy of the Macular Society Guide to AMD. Miss Sivignanavel was unhurried and the epitome of kindness throughout the consultation. She gave me great confidence that I could live with the condition and would be able to rely on her help should I need it at any time in the future.

I have had 4 Ilea injections with Miss Siva and she qualifies for her 5 stars on the following counts: - she listens - diagnosis of AMD is extremely alarming and shocking for the patient; Miss Siva explained clearly and sympathetically and ensured that I was totally au fait with the situation, best and worst scenarios, but always optimistically - she doesn't evade answering difficult questions - during treatment both she and her nurses explained each procedure as it happened

I had the pleasure of seeing Miss Sivagnanavel on three occasions recently at Kingston hospital for a relatively urgent issue. The treatment I received was exemplary with every test and procedure fully explained to me prior to commencement. Every aspect of the issue I suffered was discussed with me giving me a full understanding of the condition, its causes, and also, greatly improving my own knowledge and understanding of the eye. I was also given every opportunity to ask questions and seek advice should I wish to do so. In my view, Miss Sivagnanavel has a genuine passion for helping to preserve and enhance the sight of everyone she treats. I would not hesitate in recommending Miss Sivagnanavel and, without question, would definitely seek treatment from her again should it be required by myself in the future.

I saw Miss Siva as an emergency and she immediately swung into action, reassuring me and getting treatment under way immediately. I am still at the beginning of being treated for AMD. She explains things very clearly, which tests are done and why, and what the various outcomes might be. She manages to instil optimism whilst being honest, which is very reassuring. On a personal level she is a very attractive and delightful young woman, friendly and informal but remaining totally professional. I have complete confidence in her and am very relieved to have her overseeing my treatment.
