My first ever screening mammogram resulted in the dreaded follow up letter. Having had follow up biopsies I had to make the most difficult decision - who would I trust with carrying out my surgery? If it wasn't for my breast screening nurse, I would never had known about Sascha. Her biography speaks for itself - she is a totally dedicated specialist; highly recognised in both research and clinical environments. My first appointment with her was surreal and unexpected - a doctor that was so down to earth, listened attentively and put me at the centre of decision making. She was so reassuring, confident and professional.. with an amazing sense of humour. Being able to laugh and be positive at times of most stress and anxiety is the best tonic ever. Sascha personally phoned me with updates on my planned surgery. When the dreaded day arrived she took time with me both before and after the surgery. Her surgery skills are fantastic, as she know the impact on self esteem and confidence in respect of scars. Like most patients in Sascha's specialism - the days of waiting for pathology results seem to last forever. As soon as I walked into her consultation room she explained the outcome and the next steps. She was so genuinely happy and relieved for me and my husband. If we could 'bottle' Saschas expertise and personal qualities and sprinkle it across the health sector - it would make such a positive impact on so many peoples lives. I do hope that she takes some time out of her hectic schedule to influence the new generation of medics. SL
