Since I first attended the breast clinic having found a lump I was seen each and every time by Miss James. She immediately put me at ease, was extremely gentle, sensitive and so human. I had a therapeutic mammoplasty in May and even in my appointment prior to surgery she was the one actively seeking out a date and reassuring me that she would operate on both breasts if a colleague was not available to do the reduction on my non-cancerous breast. Heading into surgery I know many people can be nervous but I wholeheartedly enjoyed the experience: the team of theatre nurses and Miss James knew how to have a laugh and I drifted off with a smile on my face. Next morning she visited me and checked on me before her multi-disciplinary team meeting. My margins weren’t clear so I needed a tiny operation a few weeks later which was entirely successful. Miss James did an amazing job on both breasts and even in the second op I struggled to find where she had done the incision; it was done so neatly! I’m in absolute awe of her skills and her whole manner. I’ve felt appreciated, respected and truly like a VIP at every stage of my treatment at the L&D. I’ve just attended Mount Vernon for my first radiotherapy appointment and the difference between the two hospitals is huge. I’m eternally grateful for all the hard work: nothing was too much effort and I only wish the rest of my treatment was under Miss James and her team. They’re outstanding.
