I met with Miss Kollipara in 2017 after suffering a few miscarriages. After blood tests and an ultra sound she just advised that they were unexplainable and to keep trying. I’d advised that I have bad periods and the pains that I am always experiencing. After having conceived a child, I went back advising I am suffering with pains even worse than before. She did a laparoscopy and advised I had a little bit of endometriosis. A few years later I went back again advising the cramping had got really bad. She did a quick ultrasound and said it’s all fine but we will do a laparoscopy to check. I came out of theatre with stage 2/3 endometriosis. A year later I advised her that the pains have got worse again and I know this is endometriosis. She told me I have IBS and that it’s not endometriosis. I told her she advised me that before and that I came out last time with aggressive endometriosis. She then said see my colleague for a second opinion. I saw him and I had an aggressive form of endometriosis and endometrium as well as other things. I had my surgery with the new consultant and she decided to see me after advising everything will be fine now, come back in 3 months. Something inside me thought this can’t be right and I must meet with the surgeon. I met him and he advised it could not all be removed as the endo has progressed between other organs.
Had I not gone to the other consultant, I would have been left treated with IBS. I am now also left with issues with my bladder which potentially is linked to untreated endometriosis. If picked up earlier, I may never have had this all go so far with my health.
Seen Miss Kollipara both private and NHS as my daughter was suffering from endometriosis (Knew it was this as I have it, my elder daughter has it plus all female members of my family so long history of it) - Miss Kollipara (Private Clinic) said endo’s not possible at her age (teenager) which I knew was wrong - she did a quick ultrasound (which also is no good diagnosing endometriosis) and said she’s already on the pill (purely to control the pain and I know if you have Endo standard practice). She said too young for a laparoscopy and that was it! She ended up in A&E in severe pain and passing out with it and she was admitted for a week on a ward where a lovely doctor saw her and said he’s sure it’s Endo and you can literally have it from your first period (she was also severely bloated and looked pregnant). Next day on ward rounds Miss Kollipara came round and still said it’s not Endo (We refused to be transferred to her clinic as in our opinion she’s useless in diagnosing endometriosis and doesn’t listen, just nods and smiles). My young daughter has now had a laparoscopy where they found over 4 lots of endometriosis (cut out) and the head Endo Registrar said just as well she had the surgery now! She was in daily pain, not just when she was having periods and had every Endo symptom going bloating, heavy bleeding, sickness, back pain, severe pain, diarrhoea, passing out etc yet Miss Kollipara said she’s too young to have Endo! Luckily I knew the symptoms and so did Mr Magro/Mr Coker who I’d highly recommend, as if not my daughter would still be suffering and passing out in pain! Miss Kollipara seems to be very sympathetic to pregnant women/fertility issues (we noticed whilst in the ward) but if you’re suffering with Endo symptoms after both our experiences with her, go to someone else (can recommend Mr Yemi Coker/Mr Michael Magro).
The first experience when I was referred to this consulant in 2022, Premilla Kollipara went like this...3 mins consult, after an ultrasound scan "you have a cyst on your ovary and we need to make sure it's not cancer but it doesn't look like it". Once I'd had an MRI, she read the report of the MRI and said "you have endometriosis, I will refer you to my colleague", I was in the chair for approximately 30 seconds, then she continued writing on her piece of paper and no longer looked up, she didn't even gesture for me to leave the room. No explanation of what it the disease was, how to manage it, what to expect. Zero. Luckily, I can read. I knew what to expect, I was the one who told my GP that I had it and to refer me to someone who could help me. 2 weeks after meeting Miss Kollipara, I got a letter with a referral to her colleague. Yatin Thakur's waitlist at the time was 5 months - I couldn't wait, I was in a lot of pain and had been for about 2 years.
The second time I was referred to her earlier this year 2024, obviously having endometriosis, after having to take matters into my own hands by getting myself a lapararoscopy with a private consultant, she sat me down told me I had adenomyosis and offered me a lapararoscopy. I was in the seat for approximately 30 seconds, no further explanation. When she stared at me, expecting an answer, I stared back at her and expressed that is was difficult to say whether I would take up the offer of a laparoscopy as I didn't receive an explanatation as to why it was the ONLY option for me, and I had been given no information to go on in order to make that decision. She said "it's not like cancer". She was extremely dismissive and unsympathetic. She said little else. I was again expecting some shred of information about Endo or adenomyosis (which I turned out not to have). She asked if I wanted a second opinion from her colleague, Yatin Thakur.
This time round 2 weeks later, I had another appointment. He asked how I was managing pain and if I was happy with my own management of the pain, then a laparoscopy was not urgent. He was kind of right...but 3 months later with the pain getting worse, as well as fatigue, anxiety, lower back pain as well as other symptoms, I took matters into my own hands again and paid for a transvaginal scan at the Gynaecology Ultrasound Clinic in Harley St and they told me I had extensive and severe (what used to be called Stage 4) Endometriosis. It was on my bowel, and other areas and I would most likely need a hysterectomy at some point. How was this missed? The NHS Obstetricians do a great job, but when you are dismissed by them because they don't know what to do with you - that just makes you feel like you don't exist or matter. If you have Endometriosis, good luck. Google Nancy's Nook for Endo information and research, educate yourself because you need to. The Endometriosis Clinic in London can help, but you need a lot of money for answers - £800.
Miss Kollipara looked after my partner during her recent C-section at Queens Hospital. She could not have been kinder and gave us both the most amazing treatment and safe delivery of our new baby girl. Thoroughly recommended. You could not be in better hands :)
Dr Kollipara was an amazing doctor, showing such high levels of care and understanding taking time to explain in great depth. I would 100% recommend!
