I was referred to Nicola Petrie when I found out I had the brca 1 gene. I had previously had breast cancer with chemotherapy and radiotherapy and was still in rather a fragile state of mind. Nicola reassured me and put me at ease on our first consultation and explained in detail the option that I had chosen for a double mastectomy and reconstruction. She told me about the Maggie center in Oxford where other women met who had been though similar/various procedures and at this evening she explained again in full detail, with a great deal of patience the procedure we would undertake. This evening helped immensely, talking to people in an informal setting who had been through similar procedures. Nicola Petrie and other staff gave up their time voluntarily for this evening to which I was personally very grateful. The procedure I had was flap reconstruction which was a gruelling operation and recovery. The operation was faultless and the after care outstanding. I had regular appointments with Nicola Petrie and she was, as ever patient and caring. Some months after I had the nipple reconstruction and a slight alteration to the shape of my breasts. This was again completed after consultation with Nicola Petrie who helped and guided me with decisions giving me all options available to me. I cannot thank Nicola and her team enough, they made a really difficult time much more bearable and were there for me from beginning to end with great results. A thank you seems inadequate but it is heartfelt. Sincerely, thank you Warmest wishes and kind regards to everyone Helen Adams
