Review

Natalia Povolotskaya performed full debulking surgery on me, including the omentum, on April 2, 2025, at Queen Alexandra hospital. How many times have I thought of her with immense gratitude and yet I realised, only a few days ago, to my consternation, that I had forgotten to write a review, probably owing to the intensity of the post surgery experience, ongoing chemotherapy and then medication. Throughout our consultations I felt very safe and that Natalia was absolutely honest with me, and was realistic without being pessimistic. She prepared me thoroughly and calmly for the different potential outcomes. It was unclear at the time how far the cancer had reached so she brought in a second cancer surgeon specialising in the colon. When I awoke from surgery Natalia was there and told me that the operation had been successful, that the colon had not been involved and that she had been able to remove the cancer. She also sent a very kind and colleague to look in on me later when I was on the post surgery ward for which I was very grateful. The scar is very tidy and has healed extremely well and is fading fast. Her team was very supportive and efficient too. It is hard to believe that a year has gone by and I cannot recommend her highly enough.

What do you think My Journey with Natalia Povolotskaya My journey with Natalia Povolotskaya began in August last year. At the point I first met her, I had only undergone an MRI scan which had identified a mass, and I was awaiting further investigation. Natalia was the doctor who delivered the words no one ever wants to hear — that I had cancer in multiple places. She was calm, direct and compassionate. While it was an overwhelming amount of information to process, she took the time to explain everything clearly and at my pace, ensuring I fully understood what was happening and what the next steps would be. Although I left that appointment extremely upset, I was also very clear about the plan ahead, which in itself was incredibly reassuring. Following a PET scan, the multidisciplinary team decided that surgery was not possible at that stage due to the size of the tumour, and I was referred for chemotherapy. I was told my cancer was stage 4 and that there was no cure. At 44 years old, with children, this was devastating. There were days when I truly struggled to see how to keep going. After four rounds of chemotherapy, I received the incredible news that I was being referred back to Natalia for debulking surgery. At that next appointment, Natalia was outstanding. She carefully explained my options, using diagrams to help me understand, and it was very clear that she was genuinely thinking about what was best for me as a person, not just as a patient. Unlike many professionals I had encountered on this journey, she made me feel truly cared for. I left that consultation with complete confidence that I was in safe hands. On the day of my operation, Natalia came to see me beforehand and reassured me that she would do her very best — and that is exactly what she did. After the surgery, she visited me on the ward to explain that the operation had been successful, and three weeks later I attended a follow-up appointment that felt genuinely joyful. Once again, she showed such care, kindness and commitment. Natalia successfully removed all the cancer using robotic surgery — an approach she explained was not the standard route but one she felt would give me the best possible outcome and support my recovery. Three weeks after surgery, I am driving, back to work from home, my incisions are clean and healing well, and I feel good. Natalia Povolotskaya has been exceptional. She gave me hope and light during what has often been a very dark tunnel, and I will always be grateful for her skill, compassion and unwavering care.

I was referred to Miss Povolotskaya from my local hospital in December. What followed was exemplary care from an excellent surgeon and her whole team. It is evident all her colleagues hold her in high esteem and this follows through to the care she has for her patients. Across two weeks, I had my initial surgery and a further surgery a week later. Miss Natalia came in on her day off to be part of the second surgical team, which was both reassuring and unexpected. She totally understood that I needed information to better understand what had happened to me and no question was too silly. I appreciated her straightforward manner and 2.5 weeks post surgery, I am on the road to recovery. The B4 team at QA are extraordinary - at the worst time in my life they were at my side making it all more bearable. From me, my friends and family. - thank you.

Six weeks ago I had a total robotic hysterectomy performed by Natalia and her team, and have been amazed at how quickly I have recovered. I had no pain at any time, and did not need most of the painkillers I was discharged with. The entry holes have now healed up completely. She spotted a possible problem on my CT scan, and ordered a Petct scan. This has highlighted a potential lung problem, for which I am awaiting an appointment with the gynae oncologist.

On Sept 3rd Miss Natalia and her team performed a total Hysterectomy on me which unfortunately, due to the size of the cyst and fibroids, they were unable to perform keyhole surgery which is what they had hoped for. Everything went very smoothly and I was very impressed with the way they sewed me up - very neat and thin line! The reason I required a hysterectomy was that I was losing a lot of blood inc. large clots which resulted in me having a very low blood count on a few occasions which led to me to needing a couple of blood transfusions. The Gynecology team were fantastic and the amount of care and attention in everything they needed to do was second to none. Its a very friendly ward and very well run - oh apart from the food! I don't like being negative but it was very poor but that is fine you can take your own in. The operation went very well and the only downside for me was that the painkillers and antibiotics that I had made me feel very sick and a couple of days after the Operation I stopped taking them and was 100% better with just Ibuprofen when required. The whole experience and my meeting's with Miss Natalia were very positive. I am 12 weeks on now and feeling great!! Thanks everyone!

After literally years of seeing different consultants it was an absolute joy to find Natalia. She is impressively qualified and a fantastic human being. She listened to everything I said, which unbelievably is not a given with every consultant and gave me an explanation of my situation, which no one else had been able to do and very clear expectation regarding the outcome of any treatment. Once I elected to have surgery the whole process was completely worry free and for the first time I felt I could just let go. I felt completely safe in the hands of Natalia and her exceptional her team. Prior, during and post surgery I felt I still had all the support I needed. Natalia has restored my faith in the medical profession and reminded me that are still brilliant doctors out there. Thank you Natalia.

Natalia has been extremely thorough and made me feel reassured that everything is being done post op just to be extra cautious and that I can contact her and the gynae team with any questions has definitely made me feel extremely grateful and that I'm in the "best care".

From the outset Natalia has been both professional and approachable. She has explained my diagnosis ( endometrial cancer ) and the proposed treatment ( full hysterectomy and biopsies by robotic keyhole surgery ) in simple terms and with a quick diagram; instantly putting me at ease. Again, at the pre-op check she calmly dealt with any worries and then visited my ward at the end of the day to confirm a positive outcome. I have just seen Natalia to receive the histology results and again she was informative and reassuring. I have a bit more treatment ahead and I am assured that with the exceptional care and support of Natalia and her team the outcome looks good. I cannot thank her enough.

I initially met Natalia on the morning of a Laparospic Total Hysterectomy including biopsies for endometrial cancer. It was immediately apparent how professional she is as she expained in simple trems exactly what the procedure entailed and of the possible outcome. I felt reassured and in safe hands. I was visited by her later in the Recovery ward and the following day in the ward before being discharged. Natalia made me feel reassured and positive regarding the surgery. A week later I had a clinic appointment at QA with Natalia to discuss the outcomes of the surgery and the biopsies, and am now waiting for a 'belt and braces' course of Radiotherapy. A huge thankyou to Natalia and the team for what initially could have been a very daunting experience which in fact was anything but. Thankyou.
