Meriem operated on me after I was rushed to surgery at the John Radcliffe for Cauda equina syndrome. She is not afraid of asserting her experience, expertise and authority over peers when necessary and thank goodness she did. She has boundless patience, is a great listener and explains everything clearly - she also went out of her way to check on me each day that I was recovering in the hospital. She is a caring, informative and absolute rockstar! Thank you so much Meriem.

Meriem is a lovely caring doctor who listens to you. Listens to your questions and will answer them to the best of her ability. If you ask her secretary to forward a message to her to ring you back if you have any issues she will return your call as soon as she can which I found was very good of her as I know she is very busy with operations and ward rounds etc. The whole team she works with are all very good. I have hydrocephalus and a vp shunt but mine is not straight forward and Meriem has done everything she can to help with my symptoms and I appreciate everything she has done for me.

She listened to everything I had to say and put my mind at rest.

I met Miss Amarouche at St Georges Hospital on 10 March, for a consultation on some sciatic pain I was experiencing. She greeted me in a friendly way and introduced herself by name telling me she was a registrar on Mr Johnston's team. I was accompanied by my daughter and Miss Amarouche welcomed her and, at my request, allowed her to attend. Miss Amarouche put us at ease with light conversation before asking me why my GP had referred me. I briefly explained the reason, which led her to start taking a full history of my health problems. She phrased her questions clearly and allowed me plenty of time to respond. I felt she gained an accurate picture of my current situation. She went on to talk about sciatic pain and how it could be treated. She then became specific and put up images from the MRI that had been done. She went into great detail, explaining what the images showed. I was very interested and she answered all my questions clearly and fully. and we then went on to talk about treatment and future outlook. Throughout she spoke in terms I understood, and made me feel completely confident that she was fully informed not only about my medical condition and ways it could be treated, but also about my personal situation and my preferences. She conducted the meeting in a calm, thoughtful and unhurried manner, and then we agreed on the outcomes, involving my daughter as well. She ended our meeting in a warm and positive way, and we left feeling that we had learned a lot, her recommendations had been well suited to my needs, and that the consultation had been a great reassurance. I have no hesitation in saying that I found Miss Amarouche to be most helpful and understanding, as well as being, in my opinion, clearly expert in her specialty.

Miss Amarouche took time to explain in detail the findings of MRI scan, the images of which she had on screen for me to see. She was very clear in her explanation of what surgery would involve and I felt she allowed me time to ask as many questions as I needed. I came away from the consultation with all the information I needed to help me make a decision regarding surgery and would highly recommend this doctor. NHS at it’s best!
