20th February 2023

I had a lump and really wanted to have this removed. I visited Miss Gahir who did a very thorough consultation and we went through discussion on what I wanted to achieve. I barely felt anything as she has the hands of feather! Optimal results and a gold star service!

Ms Gahir is a true hero, who deserves a medal. My touchy 87 year old, non-practising barrister mother, with dementia and until her operation on 30th June 2022, bad, fungating, smelling breast cancer, is a fighter and the great niece, of a hero, who won the Victoria Cross, in WWI, who then became a barrister and Met Police Magistrate. My ma doesn't like to be touched and was in incredible pain; yet Ms Gahir and the entire back up teams, at the North Middlesex Hospital, treated her with kid gloves, like a Queen, from start to finish and bent over backwards, to be nice to me and my young adult daughter. Ms Gahir is an absolute superstar surgeon and a wonderfully straight talking, honest, yet kindly and compassionate woman - totally focused on the patient, to do what is in their best interests, to keep them alive. She even answered her own private telephone, to me, on the day of London's Red Alert storms, around Valentine's Day! True dedication! Ms Gahir told me, at the initial consultation, with my mother, that she has patients from in their 20's to 90 and the only one who died was in her 40's, who refused surgery. If you get the opportunity to be seen by her, take up the offer with both hands, immediately, before she gets booked up to infinitely. My mother had been badly let down, by the wrong opinion of a family member, a Consultant at the Royal College of Surgeons, specialising in another sector, who over-ruled a male breast surgeon, with a large ego, at another North London Hospital, who even dumped her in a small cubicle, for 4 1/2 hours, the day of the operation, the day before April Fool's Day 2022, to say the operation had been cancelled 6 days earlier. It turned out that my mother could have had a lumpectomy from her breast cancer diagnosis in January 2016. Instead, she was given tablets, which stopped working after 5 years and then the next lot stopped working. My mother was in so much pain and a gaping hole had developed, where the tumours were, getting larger, earlier this year, under the other hospital. Ms Gahir stuck her neck out and said she would operate on her, at the North Middlesex, which has an ICU and it had to be done sooner, rather than later, when the chest wall would have to be rebuilt. The wonderful Susanna, the Breast Nurse, who also raises money for Breast Cancer, by sponsored cycling, made the initial contact, in the NHS, by telephoning to introduce herself. She held our hands right up to checking us in at the Oncologist Result's Clinic. Ms Gahir left it in the hands of her wonderful anaesthetist, Dr Kale, who thinks on his feet, outside the box, through the box and around the box, to decide whether ma should undergo a local or general anaesthetic. It was decided to do a full mastectomy, under general anaesthetic, as day surgery. The operation was a total success and the recovery amazing. By 6p.m., back home, after a 45 minute car journey and a short walk, the pain and stress was completely wiped from my mother's face. The drain off and the stitching were incredibly neat and double stitched, I learned later. My mother's life was saved in the nick of time, for which I cannot thank Ms Gahir and her teams enough.

Miss Gahir showed patience, thoroughness, professionalism, availability right from my first appointment with her. My complete trust in her helped me to maintain my positivity and confidence since my first diagnosis. The whole support team were also exemplary in particular Sarah and Rachel, and of course Miss Gahirs secretary Ella were kind and supportive at every stage. I feel most fortunate to be in Miss Gahirs care.
