Gael MacLean has been a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon in Oxford since 2014. She specialises in breast cancer surgery optimising the cosmetic outcome as well as treating benign breast conditions. Gael graduated from King's College, University of London and trained in surgery in London, Reading and Oxford. She undertook further specialist breast reconstructive surgery training at the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. Gael was Head of Department for Breast surgery at Oxford University NHS Hospitals throughout the Covid 19 pandemic and ensured that excellent clinical standards were maintained for patients during that difficult time. Gael is dedicated to raising surgical standards through excellent training of surgeons in the UK. She was the first Honorary Secretary of the prestigious Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeon in Edinburgh - whose standards for surgical trainers were adopted by the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK. She has been an invited speaker nationally and internationally. Gael is passionate about finding the right operation and treatment plan for each individual patient. She takes a full role (including stepping in to chair the meetings) in the multidisciplinary team (MDT) breast cancer meetings in both the NHS and in the Private sector where each patient is fully discussed. She works closely with her Consultant colleagues in radiology, oncology and pathology.
