Dr Maclean is excellent; professional, knowledgeable - yet kind and empathetic too. She is a very skilled surgeon and I am very pleased with the results of my recent breast cancer surgery. I feel very fortunate to have been under her care and would not hesitate to recommend her to others. Her secretary (Zoe) has also been fantastic - very efficient and helpful.

Following a breast implant, performed over 20 years ago following a mastectomy, I reported a possible rupture to my GP and was referred to Miss MacLean. Miss MacLean was extremely friendly and approachable, professional, empathetic and provided clear information on my various options which we discussed fully. Having decided to have a replacement implant, Miss MacLean was arranging this under the NHS. However it came to light that the hospital (not the medical team) initially said replacement under the NHS was not possible. Miss MacLean broke this news to me very kindly and said she was looking into this. I also wrote a letter to the hospital management team explaining this need was not a cosmetic choice either initially or subsequently. I was very worried that delay in dealing with the rupture would be detrimental to my health but Miss MacLean explained all risks and was able to reassure me that the most significant risk was a very rare occurrence. After further internal discussions the hospital policy was clarified and I, and presumably others in a similar situation, would now be able to have such replacement surgery under the NHS. Miss MacLean kept me fully informed and was obviously pleased with the outcome of the discussions. Her care and enthusiasm for her work is obvious . The operation went ahead successfully after Miss Maclean explained the pros, cons and limitations so that my expectations would be realistic. The post-operative follow up appointment with Miss MacLean was very relaxed and the checks showed a good outcome in line with what I had been told to expect. My few remaining questions were answered and I left feeling that Miss MacLean had not only done an excellent operation but had helped reassure me in my anxious moments throughout the process.

Dr MacLean quickly got the sort of person I was and treated me accordingly in terms of manner and delivering information. She kept everything calm and quiet and I felt completely safe in a time of potentially huge distress. I always felt I was in experienced and caring hands. The follow up was similar- calm, authoritative and kind.

She was calming thorough and reassuring and put my mind at rest quickly with her knowledge that what I had was not serious and treatable on the day which lifted a great weight off me so thank you for that Doctor McLean
