Miss Dhariwal operated on my 10 year old daughter's white eye orbital blowout fracture 11 years' ago. She did an incredible job with the surgery - my daughter's eyesight was saved and there was no cosmetic damage due to Miss Dhariwal's choice of how to operate. She was so reassuring and kind throughout, answering my daughter's 10-year-old concerns with the same respect that she would have given an adult. My daughter is now applying for entry to graduate medical courses, with Miss Dariwal credited in her applications as her original career inspiration.

Made bizarre medically incorrect observations, false promises and an aggressive nature. Having wisdom tooth issues, I was referred to Oxford JR. There was an opening in my gum and I was getting infections etc. When I described my issues, she wasn't happy. 1) She looked in my mouth, prodding around a bit, and couldn't even find the opening (a problem no dentist has had). 2) She told me to take a picture next time I have an inflammation, I'm not sure how that's possible or what that would achieve. Perhaps she thought I and my dentists were lying? 3) Still, she said I could have the tooth removed or I could wait 6 months to see if I get a recurrence, and if I do and come back then we'll get it done then. She drove home the risks and scared me off enough to say ok, I'll wait and see if it happens one more time. Predictably, I immediately got pain and inflammation by the next day after all that prodding. 6 months and a couple of attacks later, I returned as planned, talking to a different surgeon(?). She then left to ask permission from Dhariwal for wisdom tooth removal, and returned to say I was REFUSED. I had been lied too. 4) I returned to my dentist, was referred to Banbury, and had zero barriers (nor aggression) this time in immediately getting removal arranged. Also I had no such problems with my previous removal, also at Banbury. While many around me have little good to say about the JR, and its reputation precedes it, I figured I would only judge if and when I had any bad experiences. JR duly obliged. I'll stick to Banbury as much as possible in future.

The treatment I received was excellent. Miss Dhariwal was very understanding and explained everything clearly.

Miss Dhariwal perfomed my surgery 4 months ago and I cannot fault her in the slightest. I’ve been seeing her for nearly 4 years about my jaw and she’s always explained fully what she will be doing and I feel like a very valued patient. She performed my jaw surgery and genioplasty very successfully with no complications whatsoever. I cannot fault her!

facts: my daughter was referred to Mrs Dhariwal by my orthodontist. She has a severe occlusion with a canine misplaced that has no space between the second front tooth and the first premolar. At the appointment we discussed the possible treatments. Ms Dhariwal discussed at length two options: first option, extracting the canine (preferred by her) second extracting the premolar (preferred by me - also given the independent advices from further dentist in the Italian NHS and private sector in UK). Her letter stated that Two options were available and we "will return to clinic in two months with the decision on how they wish to proceed." When we communicate her the decision to follow option two (i.e. saving the canine) she questioned why we had made such choice and basically refused to go ahead, saying that she changed her mind after having further consultation with the colleagues. When I have asked her what was the technical rationale why she changed her mind, she said that she wanted to go for the less risky option (extracting the canine). When I asked her to quantify the risk of going for the second option (extracting the premolar) she was unable of unwilling to comment further on the risk of trying to save the canine. Basically she takes decision based on risk assessment without knowing (or telling) what the risk is. She also needed to consult with (evidently) more expert colleagues. Laymen question: why was I not referred directly to the more expert colleagues? I had to ask for a second consultation at the JR. The rules are such that if you want a second consultation you need a second referral. Basically, your orthodontist has to write again to the JR the same letter he has written for the first referral. The appointment office (outpatients department) is painfully slow and the whole procedure takes about 2 months.
