Share review of Martin Kurzer
Martin repaired a hernia on my right side, in 2018. It was his signature approach. Local anaesthetic day-case, open surgery, and mesh. The results were, and continue to be excellent. I healed quickly, and only had minor discomfort once in a while in the first year or so. A slight ache, sometimes, a short duration burning burning sensation around the wound site, and some skin numbness in my groin area. Nothing at all compared to the discomfort of the original hernia. These days there are no issues, and the scar is almost invisible.
My experience from meeting Martin to the day surgery at the St John was excellent from start to finish. Given how aloof and inaccessible, I find many in the medical profession are, Martin was a breath of fresh air. He personally called me, after I had made an initial inquiry about my hernia. I found that very reassuring, and an indication of his interest in his patients and their care.
So, on to the present day when I thought I had a hernia, or at least a bulge on my other side, I emailed Martin to set up what I expected to be another surgery. I don't live in the UK anymore, and my time zone is 8 hours behind the UK. I had Martin's email reply the following morning, and when I gave him my new contact number he called me an hour later. Just an excellent response. Martin was the same genial, empathetic man I remembered from 2018. He is a pleasure to deal with.
I was out for morning coffee when Martin called, so he suggested a later video call to look at the problem. I confused the time we had agreed, and missed the call. That did not phase him. We did eventually connect, and Martin looked at my new bulge. In the event he suggested that I didn't need another surgery, at least not for now. I was of course very happy with that. I see it as an example of Martin putting the patient's interest first.
I see Martin as a master of his craft, and he delivered an excellent result for me. I really appreciated his responsiveness and empathy. If I do need surgery in the future, I will be seeing Martin for sure.
