On the 2ng January this year I underwent a procedure called prostate artery embolisation at Princess Alexander hospital Harlow.
Dr. Zaid Aldin performed this mini op and did it by going in via my wrist rather than my groin.
I was conscious for the three hours it took and can confirm it was relatively painless.
After resting for two hours I was free to go home and was warned that passing water would be uncomfortable for around a week.
This is exactly what happened and after three days a small amount of blood was passed with the urine but by day ten I was free of discomfort and two weeks after the op I was back to normal.
I now enjoy getting up during the night once only if that,my stream is strong and no waiting for ever to finish passing water.
I cannot thank you enough for the results of my procedure and would recommend this for dealing with a weak stream problem

I was going through a bad time things seemed to be all over the place with no one being nominated to put my mind at rest.
I then had a consultation with Dr. Aldin who not only put my mind at rest but made me feel more comfortable with my medical condition.
So much so that after an in depth chat' he recommended and then promoted a new procedure that did not involve invasive surgery. ( Fluoro Guide prostrate arterial Emb).
I am very pleased to report that Dr. Aldin's after care and his genuine concern for my well being has added mental value to what was a very successful outcome.
I am still under his care but in the meantime all is working as it should do.
I was having a few prostrate problems, I was advised by Mr Potluri at the Rivers Hospital to consider having a prostrate embolism. I met with Dr Aldin, he explained the procedure throughly, answered my questions, completely put my mind at ease. I had the tests prior to the procedure, which is non evasive. I had the procedure and had not one problem, very, very little discomfort. I am now back to normal , the best thing I could have done, complete peace of mind. Well done Dr Aldin from Derek Brooks Harlow
I was suffering from an enlarged prostate which eventually caused complete retention of urine in the bladder. I discussed possible treatments with the Urology Dept. at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow,Essex and was referred to Dr Aldrin for a Prostatic Embolisation. I met Dr Aldrin and he talked me through he procedure clearly pointing out the advantages compared with other possible procedures e.g. TERPs. PB is non-invasive, aches to the prostate is via a catheter inserted into either an artery in the wrist or groin. Using x-ray technology the catheter is tracked to the prostate artery. Plastic granules are then injected into the blood vessel at the prostate to cut off the blood supply. In a very high proportion of cases this results in the prostate reducing in size and the symptoms resulting from the enlarged prostate squeezing on the urethra are reduced. I had the procedure was carried out on 23 May this year by Dr Aldrin and his team. I only required a local anaesthetic and the operation took about 3 hours. There was no pain during the operation other than back ache from lying flat and still, but this was relieved with a mild pain killer. After an hour in recovery I was went home. I felt tired for a couple of days and had some soreness at night - again this was relieved with a prescribed pain killer. By the end of three weeks I could see a marked improvement in bladder function and urine flow. Now, after three months the improvement is remarkable - all the symptoms of enlarged prostate I had have disappeared - no getting up in the night, no extreme urgency to urinate and the worry that the very painful condition of retention has gone. All this achieved with no 'invasive surgery' and the minimum of discomfort. Dr aldrin and his team were superb in carrying out the procedure and in the care I was given with everything explained.
I highly recommend that anyone with similar issues to those I had give serious consideration to this procedure.
I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to Doctor Zaid Aldin for the outstanding care he provided me during my Prostate Embolization procedure. I was initially extremely nervous about the procedure, but Dr. Aldin took the time to explain everything in detail and answer all of my questions. He made me feel very comfortable and at ease.
This did not stop me thinking how on earth this could be achieved with just a tiny tube inserted in the area above the wrist (in my case)
The procedure itself took around 3 hours and was completed by Dr.Aldin himself with the assistance of his Registrar and members of the Radiology team. I tried to be as calm as possible and not to make any unnecessary movements .
The reason it takes 3 hours in my view is the immense care Dr.Aldin takes to ensure that the procedure is successful, constantly reviewing and rechecking the imaging equipment and catheter position. Following the procedure I was taken to a recovery area and monitored for a short time.
I was fully awake during the procedure and felt no pain.
I was able to return home the same day. I experienced very little discomfort following the procedure.
Probably the following 5-7 days there was a burning sensation when urinating but I personally did not notice any blood in my urine (may be too much information).
The procedure took place approximately 6 months ago and I believe I have had improvements with flow/ starting and do not need to get up at night.
I have not been taking Finasteride and Tamsulosin for over a year and feel so much better for it.
I have been undergoing NHS care for over 15 years monitoring the Prostate for cancer and psa levels with the final diagnosis being my Prostate over 30% larger than normal. I have tried to give as much information as possible to maybe reassure any other patients who may be considering this procedure.
I believe this treatment is a game changing non invasive alternative to TURP .
Again my sincere thanks to Doctor Aldin and the fantastic team of professionals at Princess Alexandra Hospital.
