Bargiotis was very rude even after cancelling an appointment. His appointments were always rushed and he said he was ina hurry, made me feel like he didn’t care

This Doctor lied about me not attending an appointment which has subsequently left me with no access to my medication or therapy. Due to this I am now suffering with extreme insomnia and unable to complete the most basic of daily tasks. I have now lost all trust in them as they have done nothing to rectify the situation despite knowing about it.

I was very nervous and scared before my appointment Dr Bargiotas was patient and reassuring and allowed me to open up about issues that had caused me trauma. I was very much at ease, and I appreciated his kind manner.

I consulted with this doctor through Psychiatry UK for an assessment for ADHD. At all stages of the assessment he was very personable and explained why he was asking certain questions etc. He listened carefully to what I was saying and gave thorough explanations of every step of the process. At my follow up appointment he made a point of talking about the positive aspects of ADHD and the fact that in many situations having a brain that works like mine is an asset which I felt was really important and validating. Obviously I had pursued an assessment because there were things I was struggling with but it’s refreshing to have a medical professional also speak of the positives of neurodivergence.

Dr Bargiotas diagnosed me with Bipolar Affective Disorder in summer 2018, and treated me at both poles of the mental illness. He treated me with respect, dignity, and compassion throughout, and took a holistic approach. He makes a point of shaking your hand as he escorts you to the treatment room, epitomising how, as a psychiatrist, he treats you as an equal rather than as an inferior. Dr Bargiotas astutely recognised autistic traits in me that had gone undetected by other mental health professionals that I had seen. Without that vital recognition, I would never have been diagnosed, and would have gone the rest of my life feeling different to others and loathing myself for that.
