Dr Thanakumar would benefit greatly from listening to his patients, tailoring care to their needs and showing compassion towards those he treats. Whilst he (rightly) puts emphasis on the wellbeing of other members of his team, this comes with patients being punished and treated with anger for symptoms of their illness (such as self harm and suicide attempts), symptoms which in fact indicate that they are at greater need of support, help and kindness. With little time spent on the ward and with ward rounds often involving him not even asking how the patient is, decisions seem to be based on preconceived judgements rather than what's best for those that are in his care. Restraint, strict observation and seclusion are deployed more readily than treatment that will actually lead to a very unwell patient's recovery. I hope this constructive feedback will be taken on board.
