I had the very great privilege of working with Dr. Sue Beards at The Alexander Hospital and The Christie Hospital in Manchester. She is one of the finest anaesthetists in the land. Dr. Beards has superb clinical skills and bedside manner, and she adopts a holistic approach to looking after the person in her care, rather than the condition presented to the surgeon. Dr. Beards is an anaesthetist for some of the longest and most complex surgical cases and maintains a calm demeanor throughout. Moreover, Dr. Beards is one of the finest chronic pain management practitioners too. Dr. Bears sees her patients throughout their surgical visit - both prior to the operation but also afterwards in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, and also on the ICE, HDU or ward thereafter, to ensure that patients are best cared for. Dr Susan Beards is a fantastic anaesthetist, very gentle and very calm, hence has a very calming effect in a traumatic situation, which is exactly what is needed, listens carefully to concerns and decides the best options for you with you, she even visited me after my op, to personally make sure I was as pain free as possible, after several operations, I have never had that before. Even though I usually have problems with small veins and cannulas, there were no problems at all, I didn't even noticed some were there, I now know what its like to have an anaesthetist who cares and really knows what they are doing and does it well. Anaesthetists are always overlooked, but do such an important job, if you are lucky enough to be in the care of this lady, you are in very good hands. Thankyou very much Dr. Beards
