I had a meeting with this Dr who was 40 minutes late, proceeded to be rude and cold and not listen. I then chased my letter almost a month later, was lied to and told this was lost in a system and anything that had been spoke about wasn't even recorded.

I care for a patient of this doctor, and I must say I am extremely disappointed in his listening skills. He is also very cold and absent in general, and seems not to take a persons life circumstances into consideration, just to see them as a load of chemicals which need augmenting. The amount of medication he has prescribed to this young person is scary, and he keeps forgetting what he has given them, which is even scarier. I think he is completely emotionally burnt out and lacking in empathy. What a shame.

My daughter who came out of hospital a month ago didn’t come home feeling any better, she was still suffering from her mental illnesses. There was a chance my daughter would have to go back into hospital. With Dr Mersons help who worked closely with our social working, he listens carefully and always provides short professional and understandable answers. This has kept my daughter calm during conversations face to face and his help has kept her out of hospital. Altogether Dr Merson is a professional who always cares for his patients.

I have seen Dr Merson on two occasions, once this month and once a couple of years ago, and both times, he was cold, indifferent, vacant, insensitive, lacking in basic people skills and any shred of empathy or warmth. I felt very uncomfortable talking to him because I was met with scepticism, cold remarks, indifference, or silence to anything I dared to say. It was like talking to a piece of cardboard. He would do well to work on making his patients feel vaguely like humans. He couldn't answer basic questions clearly, he was uncertain about medication issues (which is ridiculous as that is basically all psychiatrists do these days), hadn't read any of my notes and so he had no idea of my history and expected me to summarise it for him instead, and he didn't remember that he had already seen me before. I am not sure why he is in psychiatry as it doesn't seem like he enjoys talking to people or caring for them. He had no proper understanding of childhood psychological trauma, and said some very inaccurate and invalidating things regarding that. Left me feeling as if there was no plan for the way forward, and I have no faith in him. He refused to take any coherent direction in my care, which is his responsibility as my consultant, but he seems oblivious to that fact. True, it could have been worse, he didn't say anything actively abusive, but a doctor should never leave you thinking the only positive thing was that it could have been worse (although sadly, this happens far too often in the field of psychiatry). I wouldn't look forward to an appointment with this doctor if I were you: protect yourself.
