Dr. Humphries writes excellent letters, particularly describing the hallmark trait of procrastination results in too much overwhelm. the manifestation of the over-focused ADHD subtype can manifest in gathering too much information, also resulting in overwhelm. However, if it were not for the above my rating would be all 1s because he (1) had me on too high of a dose of Elvanse: 130, 86% ( 50 mg) above the maximum tolerated dose. He failed to incorporate a key diagnosis from my Amen clinic SPECT scan: cyclothymia (which is a low grade form of bipolar & in and of itself, not limiting. The Elvanse label clearly states: Prior to initiating treatment with a stimulant, patients with comorbid depressive symptoms should be adequately screened to determine if they are at risk for bipolar disorder; Emergence of new psychotic or manic symptoms Treatment emergent psychotic or manic symptoms, e.g., hallucinations, delusional thinking, or mania in children and adolescents without prior history of psychotic illness or mania can be caused by stimulants at usual doses. If such symptoms occur, consideration should be given to a possible causal role of the stimulant, and discontinuation of treatment may be appropriate. Stimulants may cause aggressive behaviour or hostility. Patients beginning treatment for ADHD should be monitored for the appearance of or worsening of aggressive behaviour or hostility. This was definitely the case with me, which manifested in long emails (as I’m not a shouter) which I now know is called “hypergraphia” and Dr. Humphries would scold me for sending long emails (despite them being the result of his misprespcribing. The higher dose also sent my anxiety through the roof - so the overall result was disastrous work wise. When I told him this after six weeks, as well as the symptom of mania manifesting in ordering 25 Amazon Kindle books from 2:15 - 3 AM. He said it was all attributable to my dispute with my employer, and that at 2:15 AM, the medication had worn off. This ties into my final point: my sleeping was poor & exacerbated my ADHD & anxiety. Despite being exhausted, I was too anxious to fall fully asleep but not awake enough to be productive. He realised the error of his ways a year later, citing how much calmer I was on bupropion. Sadly, it cost me dearly- personally, professionally and financially.

Dr Stephen Humphries has encouraged a total change in my life direction with his diagnosis and treatment of my adhd and recognition of my asd, things suddenly started to make more sense. I no longer use illicit drugs, drink alcohol or smoke, tthese things that have been coping mechanisms are no longer needed with medication and deeper understanding. Dr Humphries is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled, easy to deal with, really pleasant and things get sorted with as much speed and ease as is possible ... great service, very thorough ... 10/10 all day long ... I was first seen by Dr Humphries when in very poor mental health. Throughout a series of reviews he diagnosed me with ASD / ADHD and associated issues and assisted with finding the right course of treatment. Honestly I cannot recommend him enough: he has shown extensive academic and practical knowledge, his attitude was friendly, optimistic and supportive while very professional. He was very open about options and realities of my conditions. He is extremely experienced yet, unlike some of veterans of medical profession, seemed very modern and open to recent developments. When I mentioned a medication I was prescribed in a different country, Dr mentioned he was not familiar with it (not prescribed in the UK), immediately pulled out his phone and started looking it up, recognised its chemical makeup and effect and factored that in his assessment. That situation describes him well. I feel much better and I honestly stress enough the importance of his care to me.

I have only corresponded with Dr Humphries a few times; however, he appears to be a straight-shooting gentleman who upholds appropriate doctor-patient boundaries by strictly separating his private and professional affairs. Compared to the rather manipulative, extortionate, oppressive and egotistical "psychoanalytic" approaches of certain MH professional, Dr Humphries works efficiently, dutifully, justly and competently. Owing to his distanced, yet dependable and reliable support, I have almost completed my first academic year at the postgraduate level, while performing well and without having to apply for extensions, which is quite the feat for somebody with rather severe ADHD. In summary, 10/10 would recommend.

Dr Humphries is great. The only doctor who took the time to review me properly and identified my ADD rather than fobbing me off with the bog standard ‘depression’ label. He took me off the strong medication another doctor had incorrectly prescribed me ( one that had hideous side effects) and pin pointed exactly what I needed to support my condition. I have now been consistently well for the past 3 years since being referred to his Harley Street clinic.
