I wrote Dr Stanley Fan several lengthy emails as I wasn't sure whether I should make an appointment (or if a nephrology was the right specialism for my problem).
His secretary Lyn patiently passed all this information on, and Dr Fan not only took the time to read my endless history, results etc., but advised me not to see him until an endocrinologist had ruled out the most likely causes for my abnormal results.
Dr Fan then intervened on my behalf with the NHS, asking for my appointment to be brought forward; all this without benefiting personally in any way.
If it transpires that I do have kidney problems - I'll be able to repay his kindness by actually making an appointment him.
He's an exceptional Doctor; with an expert understanding of general medicine (not just nephrology) and very kind man.
I couldn't recommend him highly enough.
