I don't tend to complain about NHS services as i am very grateful to have them. However, this Dr is what you would call a wild card. Both myself and my mother have had odd experiences when seeing this GP. I went to Dr Matthews for my mental health and seemed intent on questioning me about everything aside from the problem i came for, i was in tears for the entire consultation and left feeling belittled after her cruel interrogation. Separately, my mother visited her after her cancer treatment and obviously had quite a few questions about the side effects to her body. My mother left feeling confused and also belittled, she was told she needed to make 3 separate appointments as the Dr felt bombarded. I am sure Dr Matthew's is a well skilled Practitioner but her bedside manner needs addressing so people feel comfortable asking questions about their mind and body. I can understand GP work can be overwhelming and repetitive but it is not acceptable to take frustrations out on Patients.

This dr made me feel even more dreadful about myself. Having longstanding mental health issues I often struggle to make calls or leave the house. I had to sort out a repeat sick note. I explained to reception that I didn’t want to take up a gp time and asked if anyone else could just give me the repeat. Unfortunately I had a telephone appt with this dr. She told me appointments are for sick people! She was truly vile to me - also told me future sick notes would be issued by a separate service. I tried to explain this service no longer exists (which it doesn’t) dreading having to ring for my next note! After this episode with the gp I couldn’t cope and was so upset that I self harmed quite badly (in not saying it was down to her)

I needed to see a doctor concerning severe pain caused by a trapped nerve. Unfortunately this doctor was given to me. I have never felt so imtimitated or belittled as when trying to explain I had reactions to certain pain killers she rudely answered "THEN what DO you expect me to DO for you". When I tried to aid with other symptoms she basically told be to be quiet and don't interupt her. In my own opinion this is not how a doctor in the 21st Century should be allowed to talk and treat patients. Will NEVER see this doctor again. Relevently unbeknown to me my dad also went to see Dr Mathews who prompptly made a 70 year old man with the after effects of Guillain-Barre syndrome believe that he didnt need to take the tablets to control his resulting ailments and he was a time waster. This has resulted in him refusing to go back there with dangerous consequences after being rushed to A&E with blood pressure of 219/118. Please retrain Dr Mathews in how to treat her patients.

Dr Mathews needs to learn her bedside manners. I had my first ever encounter with her yesterday and was completely and utterly left feeling very unnerved, I have seen various other staff at Alvaston medical centre and they have all been outstanding, but I am afraid that Dr Mathews let's down the practice. She is a very rude person, does not listen well, and also pulls faces at you when you are talking to her. I have never put a complaint or bad review in about anyone or anything before, but never met anyone who deserves one more. Alvaston medical centre is a very very good doctors and i have never had any problems at all until yesterday.I will not be seeing her again under any circumstances. Very disappointed.
