Profile

I am a Consutant Psychiatrist with dual certification in General Adult and Old Age Psychiatry. I have experience and expertise in managing psychiatric conditions in the 18 to 65 and 65 + category. I currently work in the NHS as an Inpatient Consultant on a ward dealing with functional disorders in Old Age Psychiatry. I work on the General Adult Psychiatry oncall rota thus keeping up to date in both specialities. My areas of interest are Bipolar disorder, Depressive disorder, Psychosis, Stress and Anxiety disorders, Adjustment disorders, Post Traumatic Stress disorder, Occupational Psychiatry and Dementia. I practice evidence based medicine and strongly believe in personalised treatment plans made in collaboration with my patients. I also work independently with Psychiatry-UK providing assessment and treatment for a variety of mental health conditions.

I was allowed to take my time during the session and I felt like he really listened to what I was saying. Very successful session. Thank you so much!

Assessment went ok but no longer listening to patient requests and is forcing patient to stop a process based on monetery decision not best interest of the patient.

We would not be here without Dr Wijayaweera's swift intervention, in respect of a close family member. The urgency at which he worked to stabilise the situation and his ability to quickly grasp the situation, and formulate a treatment plan was second to none. He is highly skilled and extremely professional in his approach. He took the anxiety and stress away by supporting and listening carefully to family members, at a very challenging time. His approach and demeanour was instantly reassuring and we knew we were in safe hands from the outset. He was always contactable and would return all communications, even after hours. If he couldn't revert, he would ensure a team member did. He was also helpful and supportive at short notice, when we had a situation after discharge. He did not take a myopic view of the circumstances. He carefully considered ALL the circumstances, as a clinician and was quick to recognise when adjustments needed to be made to medication/approach.It was evident how much his team members respect him and he is clearly held in high regard; he is invaluable and a huge asset to the NHS. Thank you Dr Wijayaweera, we feel so fortunate to have had you as the treating clinician and will be forever grateful.

I was very nervous as in the past I’ve not been listened to and things have just been brushed off as mental health issues even though I knew they wasn’t. Through the whole appointment i felt heard and was reassured and respected. I even cried at the end due to how well I’d been treated

Dr Wijayaweera made me feel confident to speak about the condition that I have struggled with all my life and made me feel heard. He showed understanding of the condition along with empathy which you don't get a lot of these days.

Great experience with this kind and compassionate doctor who made me feel completely comfortable and able to talk openly about a lifelong struggle. He did so with great empathy and understanding. Highly recommended.

I had a very positive experience with Dr Wijayaweera. He listened attentively and conducted a thorough and well-structured evaluation of my symptoms and history.
