I cannot recommend this doctor enough. He has been consistently understanding, supportive and unreservedly attentive. Nothing is ever too much trouble whatever the time of day or night, week day or weekend. He has helped my cancer experience be positive and reassuring whilst providing clinical information in a clear, concise and factual manner. This can never be an easy job role and sometimes, the delivery for patients must be undeniably tough but, Russell is completely dedicated, enthusiastic and passionate about what he does. His commitment to raising awareness, improving research as well as participating in fund-raising events to support his vocation makes him a truly remarkable person and I am extremely lucky to have been directed to him as his patient.

Dr Russell Burcombe is brilliant at what he does. He fills me with confidence (not an easy thing when you are discussing prognoses), he is knowledgeable and he cares. The most impressive factor of how he operates is the phenomenal speed at which he comes back to me considering how busy he is. I am very grateful for the time he dedicates to answering my numerous questions.

Super understanding doctor, who takes into account all aspects of one's health and other conditions and how each one may affect the other. Alongside every day medicine, he also promotes alternative therapies such as acupuncture and hypnotherapy. I would highly recommend Dr Burcombe.

Profile

I qualified at The London Hospital Medical College in 1991.

Four years later I entered oncology, training at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, The Middlesex and St. Bartholomew’s Hospitals before becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in 1998.

I interrupted my training to complete a Research Fellowship at Cancer Research UK’s Gray Laboratory then broadened my experience with a spell as Consultant Radiation Oncologist in Christchurch, New Zealand.

In March, 2004, I was appointed Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Kent Oncology Centre, Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW).

As Trustee of Breast Cancer Kent, I have been closely involved in fund-raising to provide state-of-the-art equipment for the Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells Breast Care Centres.

I work closely with Macmillan, Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now, supporting these great charities providing support and information for patients.

I believe it is important to promote secondary breast cancer initiatives and my efforts in this arena have met with strong approval from professionals and patients.

I contribute to the Kent Oncology Centre programme of clinical audit and research, have publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, and have delivered presentations at national breast and lung cancer meetings.
