Dr Turverville Smith was my fathers doctor for over 20 years. Despite my father wishing to stay with him my and my mother’s experience of him when my fathers health deteriorated was bad. In fact the practice let us down continually at a time when my 80 yr old mother had breast cancer and my father had bladder cancer and other major health issues. A constant battle to get a doctor out when my 80 yr old father could not stand and was clearly seriously ill. One incident my father had a urinary tract infection and was becoming delirious. A rash developed and my mother called the surgery. Dr Bentham said to ask district nurse due in a few days to take a photo of rash and he would look at it.... I called ambulance as turns out he had SEPSIS and would have died if we followed doctor’s advice. Dad had lymphodema for years and was constantly fobbed off to the point I had to arrange a referral to specialist myself. I could go on but it’s too upsetting as dad died last October ... a couple of days after he “failed” test to receive continuing care paid for by NHS as did not meet criteria [was not unwell enough!]
