Everything started out really well, but after about a year and a half things changed and he became incresingly hard to get hold of. About 8 months ago I ended up running out of my 3 types of medication after several attempts to contact him without any reply whatsoever. I havent heard from him since. Ended up stopping the meds abruptly as they werent available on the nhs

Did an autism and adhd assessment online with Dr. Schapira a couple of years back and have only had good experiences with this and the follow ups. I accidentally missed an appointment once and he was happy to reschedule free of charge. The medication has helped me and he was happy to set up shared care with my GP so I can get the medicine through the NHS. He listened to any of my concerns, but still said what was the best course of action based off of his professional experience.

Spoke about irrelevant topics - spent over half of our second session speaking about Covid even though I made no attempt to show interest he still carried on. Wasn't interested in my opinions - he diagnosed me and told me a common characteristic of someone with my diagnosis is a lack of empathy which I said I didn't have and he went on to explain the word although I understood it clearly anyway, incredibly patronising. Admin was appalling, never got an email back from him or his secretary after he diagnosed me and Covid broke out and I was furloughed stuck at home - still no interest or care shown for the patient even after multiple phone calls & emails. What an abysmal introduction to psychiatry that was for me. Don't let this man put you off continuing your journey elsewhere, not all of them will be like Dr Schapira.

As someone else stated, he likes to talk a lot about irrelevant topics. He treated me like I was a drug addict and seemed to want to waste our appointment times, after stating that I wasn’t angry about a recent death in the family, it was almost like he was trying to goad me into saying something that wasn’t true. That was extremely distressing. After telling him I was suicidal, all I got were the standard clichès. He seems harmless enough, generally a nice bloke, but when it comes to severe mental health problems you’re better off going elsewhere. It’s a shame. 1k+ and you’d expect something better than the NHS.
