Mr Thomson listened to all I had to say and asked pertinent questions. He understood the problems I had been experiencing and that I needed reassurance- which he was able to provide. My appointments were conducted in a friendly and relaxed way and I felt that he wanted to help me all he could. I was very happy that he was the specialist that I saw.

Dr Thomson was running late because he had a student with him but he did not make me feel that he was hurrying me to catch up. He listened to what I had to say, was gentle and considerate and took time to explain a couple of things to the student. I felt he understood what I was trying to explain about my symptoms and why I had been concerned about them. At the end he gave me some suggestions as to what might be causing me the problems and what to do about them and arranged to see me again in 6 weeks with a food and symptom diary. I was seen at Morpeth NHS Centre and not at any of the centres listed below.

I saw Dr Thompson at the Morpeth Health Centre. He was punctual ,kind, respectful and listened carefully. He did what he said he would do with commendable speed. What more does a patient need? He thought round the subject and made the appointment very comfortable. I am thankful for the service available to us. A greystoke patient

Dr Thomson explained everything about my condition clearly. The appointment never felt rushed. I was able to ask all the questions needed to ask. He has excellent communication skills and empathy.

I cannot believe how very fortunate I was to have Richard Thomson pick up the referral made by my GP for me to see a gastroenterologist. What a wonderful, kind, caring and non patronising consultant, who I saw at the Morpeth Clinic. The last time someone ‘actively’ listened to what I was saying was when I was running a training session for ‘listening skills’ at a voluntary organisation here in the North East of England back in the late 1990’s. To be fair though, I have met a couple of medical consultants in recent years who have listened to what I have had to say but Richard Thomson goes straight to the top of the list for actively listening to every word I said. What a star! I’m not surprised that he has an interest in communication and consultation skills. After asking some very pertinent questions, he proceeded to dispel my fear by giving me an immediate diagnosis, one that did not include any sinister underlying cause. My response was to feel a huge sense of relief and total confidence in this physician. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone if asked. I would also like to take this opportunity to commend Roz, his medical secretary, who I spoke to a couple of times on the phone. She sounded very caring and she was certainly very patient and helpful. Thank you.
