I had an online session with Dr Shaffer to discuss about my Duputryen's. He was very polite, reassuring, and spent considerable time to listen to me. I appreciated his honesty and his willingness to further explain all the available courses of treatment

I had a video consultation with Dr Shaffer and more recently a face to face consultaion. We were looking to see if the Dupuytrens disease/contracture in my hand could be treated with radiotherapy. Unfortunately due to me shielding for the last year and waiting until I had 2 doses of the covid vaccine by the time I saw him the curvature had progressed and Dr Shaffer said that it would not now be suitable for radiotherpy treatment. He gave me some suggestions of doctors who would probably be able to treat me with other methods. I felt that he was very approachable and I trusted his decision and appreciated his honesty. I would definitely recommend him.

Dr S has been my oncologist for 5 years now. We have built a good relationship over the years. When I was first diagnosed Dr S agreed to see me, even though my cancer isn’t what he would normally treat. It was very emotional. There were discussions over my treatment and we were able to compromise, he made me feel included in what treatments were best for me. Let me make my own choices, with guidance and He has kept me alive for 5 whole years!! Very professional, very lovely, and a really nice man

Having been diagnosed with Dupuytrens in 2020 I decided to research what treatments were available after being advised my local NHS only operate once a finger has started contracting. I read about Dr Shaffer through the British Dupuytrens Society website and how radiotherapy may help this condition and contacted his practice. At the time I had 2 painful nodules on my right hand and while my left hand was painful, there were no visible lumps. On my initial consultation, Dr Shaffer clearly explained the radiotherapy procedure, made me aware that for some patients it may not work and answered any questions I had which helped me decide to have the treatment. He marked up both hands, identifying areas where further nodules later appeared. After my first 5 day radiotherapy session I emailed Dr Shaffer with a query and he very promptly responded and that was reassuring. The staff at Genesis Care in Chelmsford looked after me with kindness and consideration and put me at ease me throughout the process. They were contactable if I was concerned about anything both during and after my treatment. Having now completed my radiotherapy I’m hoping it will be successful. I would like to thank Dr Shaffer and the staff at Genesis Chelmsford for everything you have done.
