Dr Shaffer gave me a free 30 mins consultation to talk about my non urgent condition and to give me guidance as to how it could be managed. There was no pressure to continue care with him just a reassurance then when I was ready he would be happy to manage my care.

Not a great response. I contacted Dr Shaffer after seeing his details on British Dupuytren Society intranet page. He called me to discuss my condition was very reassuring. I sent him pictures of my hands which he looked at and gave his opinion. However, I was still anxious about my condition and went to see him in London. I found Dr Shaffer to be very clear in what he was telling me and very knowledgeable. Dr Shaffer is a very engaging and approachable doctor. He reassured me that I was too early for treatment and if or when I need treatment he was there for me. He armed me with the knowledge on how to do the finger test to check for progression. I am very pleased that I found Dr Shaffer and if I need treatment in the future in he will be my first point of call.

Dr Shaffer has been a reassuring and warm-hearted presence during a very difficult time. He recommended then guided me through 14 months of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, explaining things compassionately but also bluntly when necessary. He has always been available to discuss any concerns or questions I have had. It is 18 months after my treatment ended, and things are going well. The treatment has so far had a positive effect on my life. I would have been more than happy to continue to follow up with Dr Shaffer, but he informed me that his area of focus has now changed so recommended a new consultant to take over my care.
