My experience with Dr McDermott is that he has a very poor way with patients as he has a dismissive and arrogant manner. I have asked to be changed to another doctor in the practice (but I have been told this cannot be done). One example is that my consultant had written to him to ask for a scan to be arranged following an operation I had - he decided he did not think it was worth having and refused. He told me this in the visit I made when sick with an infection and I felt too ill to complain. It has delayed my follow up visits with the hospital as a result by several months and my consultant was not at all pleased - he arranged it for me instead and I am now waiting for the results 10 months after the operation rather than the usual four. Dr McDermott was also my father's doctor and I had been worried about my father's health and I rang and asked him to check him over on his next visit. He did not. I asked my dad to attend again and he gave him a clean bill of health but my father had a stroke on the very same day he had been to the Dr McDermott - he had clearly had a couple of mini strokes and was suffering dizzy spells and other symptoms, none of which was followed up by Dr McDermott even when alerted. Since then, there have been other numerous issues around the care for my father and other members of my family that give us cause for concern about his capability. Dr Martin in the same surgery is fantastic on the other hand as is Dr Burgess.
