Up until his retirement this year I had been seeing Dr Hackett since 2013 after 41 years of seeing Neurologists and other Neurologists and Doctors for my Epilepsy. Dr Hackett, by far was probably the best Neurologist that I have ever been under the care of. Even when he retired from his Epilepsy clinic he agreed to see me at one of his other clinics before he retired completely. His retirement from Hope Hospital is a great loss.

Dr Hackett is the most unbelievable doctor I have ever came across he is condescending righteous and very rude doesn’t listen to patients. He will go off his own thoughts before your even in the room. Don’t trust this doctor he isn’t there for his patients at all.

Dr Hackett is a superb doctor. Several other clinicians have left me unwell. As soon as I saw Dr hackett I was correctly diagnosed. As an ex nurse, I regard him as a special clinician.

Without a doubt the worst clinician I have ever come across. This is not only based on my own firsthand experience of him as a patient but also confirmed by the disgust expressed by medical students I overheard talking about him. When reading back through my medical notes, he completely twisted my words (some were a flat-out lie) and made terribly derogatory comments - I actually started recording the audio of our consultations to prove to my GP that the consultations were completely unreliable. I am in complete disbelief as to how he can get away with being so rude and inconsiderate, especially as someone who is supposedly committed to a career in psychiatry. He would even be so bizarre as to suggest that I was lying about having attended a brain scan, simply because it wasn't available on the system. This was a clerical/IT issue that a previous doctor had actually apologised to me about - yet Dr Hackett wouldn't accept that and called me a liar? It was just so strange. At no point did I feel like he was listening to me. He put words in my mouth and would use leading questions in an attempt to get me to say things that fit a diagnosis he had already decided upon before I entered the room. I have since spoken to other doctors who know him personally or indirectly - including a previous colleague in psychiatry - and they were not at all surprised by what I told them, although obviously disappointed that he would continue to treat some of his patients this way. I doubt he will read this, but I sincerely hope Dr Hackett reflects on his practices and inconsideration towards his patients, and from what I have heard, his colleagues and medical students too.

Dr Hackett is excellent. He diagnosed my illness and made me better with the correct medication. He continues to support me. He is professional and an excellent listener. I hold him in high regard and can't thank him enough.
