After a routine mammogram I was called back for further investigation. The results showed that I had I had grade lll breast cancer and was HER2 positive. I was naturally devastated but Miss Vidya explained clearly and simply to me that although it was a cancer that was ‘a little bit naughty’, it could be successfully treated. Miss Vidya and her team have shown total compassion and professionalism throughout my treatment. The process was explained clearly with plenty of written information provided to read and reflect on at home. After a successful course of chemotherapy I had surgery to remove the remaining tumour and lymph nodes for testing. I received the results from Miss Vidya and breast care nurse Sara Longman. The news that my cancer had gone, was delivered with again with compassion. It was an exciting moment. I feel privileged to have received such special care from this wonderful team. They have given me strength and support throughout my journey. I still have a little way to go with radiotherapy in the new year and further medication to prevent the cancer returning. I have had total trust and faith with this wonderful, compassionate team. I thank them all.

I was called back from a mammogram and spent the five days before my appointment at the breast clinic of New Cross Hospital, worrying that the end was nigh! After a two hour appointment during which I received two mammograms, an ultrasound and several biopsies were taken, I was told that my small lump looked 'more suspicious than not', but that it could be dealt with. I left the hospital feeling confident. My next appointment was with Miss Vidya who confirmed the diagnosis, and told me what my options were to fix it. I just wanted the cancer gone, and she arranged for me to have surgery at the earliest available date. I saw her again pre surgery to confirm my choices, and felt fully supported by her. The day of surgery was very busy, but she came to see me and reassure me that they knew what was going on, and were comfortable in dealing with it. My post-operative appointment was thorough, and I was reassured that everything had gone as well as possible. She kept an eye on a little unusual swelling, including a call with her registrar whilst she was on holiday, so that she could just check and make sure she had no concerns prior to radiotherapy. I will shortly start the radiotherapy, but am totally happy with the process that has taken place in terms of the efficiency of the service, and the care and understanding that I received (even when I was at panic stations!) from Dr. Vidya and her team. My sincere thanks for sorting out this issue promptly and effectively - I would have no hesitation in recommending this team to anyone facing breast cancer.
