Very caring, has a great smile. He is very cheerful for a psychiatrist too which is a plus as most of them I've seen before have seemed to be depressed themselves! He is approachable and knowledgable and most of all HUMAN. He does not act like he is above you and instead treats you with respect and kindness. I do wish I saw him more often too but I read his reply about how busy he is and how he schedules his work loads and that is fair enough. I think using the internet for reviews is good, maybe the psychiatric services in Wrexham should build an internet presence so patients could access info, contact their psychiatrists online, and also chat in forums with other patients! I think mental health in Wrexham is backward compared to larger cities. We should have more facilities like a day hospital. They closed one years ago and now the only options are in patient or crisis team interventions. They should have a day hospital to allow ill people to have care in the day but sleep in their own beds at night. In the day hospital you could keep fit, do art, have therapy groups, be monitored for meds and stuff like that. I think Dr Singh is the man to push forward and make a modern mental health unit for Wrexham.

Thank you for your kind feedback. Due to difficulty at times for organising outpatient appointments I have recently been trying to carry out follow up by telephone calls to discuss any issue(s) that could be sorted out by short discussion. It has meant that my patient doesn't have to wait for appointment. If you feel that you want to have a short discussion by telephone then you can leave a message with my secretary on 01978726750 to request a call back and i will contact you when i get your message. Of course this will not suit all people and you may prefer a face to face discussion in which case an outpatient appointment may be preferable. I would stress that this website is trying to gather feedback about your experiences of care and that if you have any suggestions about how services should/could be reorganised that you write to the Health Board with your suggestions. Presently I am not involved in the planning of how mental health services are organised in Wrexham.

I like him a lot and think he is very friendly and caring. But I wish I saw him more often and not have huge gaps for appointments. I wouldn't want anyone else but Dr Singh for my treatment and I rate him highly.

Response from Dr Pritpal Singh

Thank you for your kind feedback. I see patients that are booked in for one of the following reasons: 1) GP has requested an opinion - so this may be a one off appointment for assessment and decide what are the next steps that GP can be advised on 2) Clients who are receiving input from the Community Mental Health Team and the appointment has been requested by a care coordinator for review of care and treatment. This appointment is usually once every 12 months. 3) Clients who are under my care in clinic for treatment of conditions for which GP is not able to (or cannot) prescribe and monitor treatment- in which case the appointments are every 6-12 months. However in all cases if a client wants to see me in clinic they can ring my secretary to request a clinic appointment. When i get the request for an appointment i will consult your case notes and either confirm an appointment or if it is more quicker telephone you to discuss the next steps to take. If i am away from my office for a meeting you can leave a message with my secretary and i will get back to you. If i am away on study/annual leave and you need to speak to some one please ring my secretary and ask to speak to the CMHT duty person; The duty person will speak to you by telephone, arrange to see you face to face if necessary and access your case notes to obtain any medical advice needed from consultant colleagues who are covering my absence.

I've seen Dr Singh a few times, he's so lovely. He will just sit there and listen, he doesn't judge you and he just completely understands you. He is so spot on with what he says as well. I'm so glad that when I am in a bad place, he's the person that I'll see. The first time I went to see him, I thought he'd think I was lying and there was nothing wrong with me but I was so wrong, he understood everything I said and tried his best to help me.

I went to Dr Singh when I became depressed due to my syndrome PoTS. I am very thankful and relieved that he is my doctor and my sisters because he realises everyone's situation in your family and always keeps in touch with you and follows you throughout your period of getting better. I have known him since my sister became ill 8/7 years ago (roughly) and haven't found any faults with him!. He is usually always on time for appointments, that's the only thing I would complain about. He is a A1 Psychiatrist, doctor and a genuine man.

Dr Singh is such a lovely person and fantastic psychiatrist. He is the best one that I have ever seen in the Wrexham area and is head and shoulders above the others. He cares, he gives you time, he listens and he is very friendly. He knows his stuff but does not confuse you with jargon or medical speak. I'd seen most of the others over the years and could never really relate to them. It's different with Dr Singh, you really get the sense that he is on your side and that he will do anything to help your distress. I cannot rate him highly enough.

Profile

Tell me about your experience of Care and Treatment by the Wrexham Community Mental Health Team.
I work as a Adult Psychiatrist with the Wrexham County Mental Health Team providing specialist medical input for patients with serious and enduring mental illness.

Clinical assessments focus on developing a joint understanding of difficulties faced by patients which inform the next steps to be taken. Significant family members, carers are encouraged to participate in discussions around diagnosis and treatment. The ultimate aim is to help patients develop a capacity for self management by means of education, informed decision making and full participation in treatment decisions.

I am very keen for my patients and their carers to become involved in teaching and training of mental health professionals. I am setting up a pilot project with HAFAL, aiming to highlight to medical students/junior doctors to understand patient experience of living in the community whilst coping with mental illness.

In addition to my clinical work I am an Executive Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Wales. I recently took on the role of Lead for Mentoring of Psychiatrists in Wales.
