I saw Mr Shanahan today for migraine advice and whether to stick with Sumatriptan or to try another preventative medication. Both he and his registrar were extremely thorough - taking considerable time to explain all options, pros/cons, future scenarios, etc. I must say, Mr Shanahan is the friendliest consultant I’ve ever seen and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to see a headache specialist.

Dr Shanahan has been my migraine doctor for many years and is very patient, kind and knowledgeable. I have never felt rushed out the door and always get the feeling that he really wants to help, his tried so many different treatments for me and is very understanding of how this chronic condition affects ones life. I have been seeing Dr Shanahan on and off for over 8 years. He is kind, thoughtful, and teaches me something new every time I see him. He has never given up on me even now we have nearly exhausted all preventative and acute medication. He has tried Botox (at which he is quick and painless) and GON. I could not praise him highly enough for the attention and his knowledge he so freely shares with me. I would feel lost without him and feel truly blessed to have found him.

Dr Shanahan is the best doctor i’ve ever encountered, and as a final year medical student myself, i’ve met hundreds! I’ve suffered from headaches and neurological symptoms for years and Dr Shanahan is the first person to correctly diagnose me and treat me accordingly. He’s happily changed medications when they weren’t working for me and has tried treatments that I didn’t even know were available. He’s one of the smartest and kindest people i’ve ever known and I consider myself extremely lucky to be one of his patients.

Dr Shanahan is a lovely gentle doctor that takes the time to understand what your headache problem is. He doesn't rush you and is very thorough and will make an appointment available to you if you urgently need one. He is extremely sought after and his clinics have 14-15 month waiting lists for standard follow up but he will see you sooner if a treatment or more urgent follow up is required. He found what was wrong with me after years and years of other neurologists not being able to figure it out. It took him 15 minutes and he correctly diagnosed me. I now have my life back thanks to his treatment. I highly recommend him!
