Dr Gallo made me feel happy, calm he explained very well what was wrong with my head and what he was going to do to help. He used his computer to show me pictures of head and told me all about it. He answered all my questions and I asked a-lot! Dr Gallo was fun to be around and had a great sense of humor was energetic and he has a nice smile. Dr Gallo always talked to everyone on the ward and in the play room. I am 11 and I would say to anyone who Dr Gallo is going to look after you are in safe hands and Lucky to have him to look after you. I am very lucky and grateful he looked after me:)

My daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumour at RACH in 2015 and we were immediately transferred to Edinburgh for her to have surgery the next day. When we arrived in Edinburgh there was not an intensive care bed so her operation had to be postponed. We found Mr Gallo very reassuring and confident as he had to change the plan for the tumour removal and talked us through how initially operating on the hydrocephalus and fitting an access device would be beneficial to our daughter as it meant when they went in to remove the tumour the operation would be less complicated with the pressure already removed. After many helpful discussions sometimes repeating information he had told us at our request (we were in shock and it was hard to take it all in) we trusted him and knew he was confident in this plan would actually work better for our daughter in the long run. We saw him before and after both operations and regularly while waiting for the results of the tumour removal and he explained in detail the results of her first MRI scan and how positive the initial scan was. Anything we asked or did not understand he made sure we went over it until it sunk in and he was able to give us the news the tumour was benign and slow growing and that the very small area visible in her scan might even disperse over time. The relief was immense and we were discharged back to RACH not long after her operation when her initial sickness had stopped and they were sure there were no post operative issues. We are now in the care of RACH but we know that Mr Gallo would happily answer any queries we have and has promptly replied to any concerns I have had. Also we know that Mr Gallo is part of the team that reviews scans that our daughter will have every 6 months. At the time in shock as a parent you don't initially appreciate how much trust we had in Mr Gallo and we are so glad that our daughter had his and the extended teams support during the weeks we were at the sick kids hospital.

We were very impressed with the care our son received from Dr Gallo. He had so much expertise about our child's condition - intraspinal lipoma (lypomeningocele) and he was always able to answer any questions we had about it. When unsure whether to go ahead with the operation he explained clearly the pros and cons of either option and after a lengthly discussion we were able to make up our minds. We felt very confident that he could offer our son the best of care and was the best person to carry out his operation. His past record of successful operations was very reassuring and it also helped greatly that he seemed so passionate about his job and the ability of the neuromonitoring team in ensuring a successful operation. We felt we could trust him 100% with our baby, despite knowing the dangers of the operation. The operation was a success and 99.9% of the fatty tissue was removed from our son's spinal cord which is the best result we could wish for. A tiny bit of it could not be touched because it was on the root of his spinal cord. We were so happy with the result and will be forever grateful to Dr Gallo for what he did.

In mid-2013 at the age of 15, I started suffering from severe sciatica and back pain which an MRI in November of that year showed to be two prolapsed discs. I was immediately referred to Mr Gallo who carefully explained my MRI and helped to explain all the pain that I was experiencing. It was decided that the best course of action would be to try and let my discs heal naturally without any operations as I was so young. However following a check up there was no improvement and so I was put on a waiting list where I was to be given a cancellation. I received a date quickly and underwent an operation on one disc on 11/07/2014. Mr Gallo again explained everything involved in the operation and helped a great deal in making me less nervous in the lead up to the operation. He came to see how I was both before and after which I am very grateful of. After the operation my condition soon got better and I was able to return to daily activities under advisement from Mr Gallo of how best to aid my recovery. I followed this advise and also received physiotherapy to strengthen my back. However, my second disc worsened at the beginning of 2015 and I was soon suffering from sciatica again. I was seen by Mr Gallo quickly and received a second MRI, once he had received the results of this he phoned me personally which was very thoughtful. After this it was determined that an operation would be the best way to improve my condition and he gave me time to decide if it was what I wanted. His confidence in the procedure was very reassuring and again his explanation of the situation was a great help. I received a date for my second operation and it was performed on 17/12/2015. Mr Gallo again came to see me before and after the operation. The operation was a complete success and I no longer suffer from any pain. I saw Mr Gallo for the final time and was given the all clear today. I am extremely lucky to have been treated by Mr Gallo as he has made these difficult few years a lot easier. He timed my operations so that missed minimal school in 6th year and missed none of my first year at Uni. I highly recommend him as he is a superb doctor who is caring, very genuine and down to earth. He really went the extra mile regarding my case and I will be forever grateful of that. I cannot fault the quality of care I have received from Mr Gallo.

Mr Gallo was professional from start to finish. He was always happy to give his time and share his expertise, answering all questions we threw at him. He was reassuring, but honest where necessary.
