Dr Oliver Guttmann is a Consultant Cardiologist for Inherited and Inflammatory Heart Muscle Diseases and Interventional Cardiology at St Bartholomew's Hospital and Honorary Associate Professor at University College London. He studied medicine at Cambridge and University College London and graduated with a first-class BA (Hons) in neuroscience in 2002 and with a merit in medicine in 2005. He was awarded membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2008 and completed cardiology training at the Heart Hospital, London Chest Hospital and Barts Heart Centre in 2017. His MD (Res) was awarded by University College London in 2016 for research in atrial fibrillation and stroke in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy funded by the British Heart Foundation. He has published several articles on inherited an inflammatory heart muscle disease, risk stratification in cardiomyopathy and the study of outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention. He is also a editor for Cochrane Heart, a member of the working group on pericardial and myocardial disease of the European Society of Cardiology and the Finance Committee of the British Cardiovascular Society. Dr Guttmann consults generally in all areas of adult cardiology (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, palpitations) with a special interest in chest pain management and coronary intervention, including angioplasty and stenting. He sees all patients with suspected and confirmed cardiomyopathies, especially myocarditis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

I attended Bart’s today with my husband to see Dr Guttman, It was a pleasant visit, Dr Guttman treated us with the upmost respect, very understanding and most importantly he listens and great communication we cannot fault him and extremely grateful for he’s time during our appointment, Thank you.

Dr Guttmann has been looking after my heart for many years. He is an outstanding communicator and just the best doctor I have ever come across. He clearly is a master in his field and is a great listener. He has exceptional bedside manner. I am grateful that he is looking after me.

Dr Guttmann is an outstanding doctor. He has been looking after me for a few years now folowing my episode of myocarditis. Even during the covid pandemic (while he was looking after covid intensive care patients) he stayed in touch regulalry to make sure I am well looked after. He is a highly regarded specialist and I am so glad that he is my doctor.

The quality of care that I received from Dr Guttman and his team when I was admitted as an emergency following a cardiac arrest could not have been better. During what was a distressing and slightly bemusing situation (until that time I had no idea that I had a heart condition) they took time to put me at ease, explain fully what was happening and generally held my hand (on occasion physically as well as metaphorically). The surgical team were excellent, ensuring that even though they were dealing with a fairly difficult situation I never for one moment doubted that it would anything other than 100% successful. One week later I left hospital complete with a seriously sophisticated piece of kit (an ICD). Two and a bit months on and I continue to be supported and reassured by their care (after care?). I and my family will remain eternally grateful to St Barts

Dr Guttmann has saved my life. I came to Barts with a heart attack after my heart had stopped. He put a stent in my heart. He then looked after me on the ward and I left Barts after only a few days. I am ever so grateful. He is a great doctor. Thank you also from my wife and daughter.

During my time in the NHS I have seen so many doctors, but Dr Guttmann is special. He listened patiently asked questions about my background and lifestyle. He then explained my options and choices and together we decided on a way forward. Dr Guttmann was very reassuring. I could not recommend him more!
