I can't think of an occasion where he has failed to give excellent service. I've been having rather a rough time recently but his support has been uniformly superb. What I am particularly grateful for is his range of contacts, as I've had to have several interventions which have involved travelling to hospitals in London and to other centres of excellence. His cheerful good humour and general encouragement, at least as much as his extensive medical knowledge, have been hugely beneficial at this tricky time. I regard myself as being extremely fortunate to be on his list.

We have been with Dr McWilliams for more years than we care to remember and have always found that he listens to us, explains in detail what's wrong, whether it will clear up on its own or needs more investigation. I recently went to him with a problem with my knee which was giving me a alot of pain and difficulty in walking. The X-ray I'd had earlier in the year showed wear and tear and the pain killers didn't seem to be working. When he examined me he felt that a steroid injection would be of benefit and injected me. This has eased the pain and made walking a lot better. He has also helped my husband who has diabetes, monitoring him and making sure the pills he takes are doing the job. what more can you want, than a doctor that really cares.

I am 52 years old and have terminal breast cancer having been a Registered nurse for 30 years. I initially met Dr McWilliams when I was looking after my mother with dementia and a CVA. Both as a concerned relative and now a patient I have always found Dr McWilliams to be understanding, patient and willing to take time to re-iterate or explore an issue. He is professional, experienced and empathic and I trust his judgement and expertise/knowledge implicitly. Due to extensive spinal mets, I go out very little and Dr McWilliams visits every 2/52 or more if I am poorly. I plan to die at home and, with the help of Dr McWilliams, everything is in place to allow me a comfortable, well managed death in my own surroundings as he has an excellent rapport with the Pilgrims Hospice. Perhaps the greatest compliment to which I can attest, however, is that my only son James is currently reading medicine at St Georges - inspired by our GP - Dr McWilliams
