I went in for an ADHD assessment, and when asked about a few questions from my childhood - it being early in the morning and being a long time ago, I couldnt remember. I requested we go back and answer these questions but I was told there was no time and I would not receive a diagnosis. There was however, during this assessment time to ask many non related ADHD questions from other random DSMs and was eventually told I have an unhelpful and unwarranted diagnosis from a partial DSM during an assessment for a different disorder. Not only is this unhelpful but it can be harmful to others so I am suggesting she takes immediate steps to be kinder to others during lines of questioning, and don't deviate from the set of questions asked for the DSM requested. If patient is struggling answering specifics about childhood, be patient and trigger their memories. Do not end conversions with telling patients they are abnormal in their 15 years of experience, which is what she said to me.
