Written by a patient at The London Clinic
24th September 2019

In October 2017 I went to see Dr Navin Ramachandran at the London Clinic (14 Devonshire Street). I had problems with my bladder and was referred to see him for a Kidney/Renal/Urinary Tract examination. I was asked to attend on a full bladder. My first appointment was 45 minutes delayed and my bladder was significantly distended. In the report it said "Attenuated flow curve for age". I flagged my concerns that it did feel painful for me to urinate due to the fact I had to wait with a full bladder for 45 minutes. And I had to insist on the second appointment. My second appointment was 30 minutes delayed and I felt pain again but Dr Navin Ramachandran said that these results prove the first results. In the report he put - "Again there was a very attenuated flow curve for age. The poor flow and large post micturition residual are present again on the repeat study". I felt extremely upset and stressed and couldn't think straight. Only when I got home I realised that I had to ask for the third appointment as 30 minutes wait on a full bladder wasn't ok. When I emailed him asking for the third appointment, his reply was “The findings in my experience are significant, but I have copied in Beverly who can arrange one last scan. We need to arrange this at 9 am on a Thursday so that there is no one before you. After that I think we have exhausted our lines of investigation.” The third appointment was also delayed but this time I insisted on making sure I am not in pain before the examination - meaning I had to release the bladder so it wasn't painful as during the previous two appointments. This time the results were fine!! Previous two appointment had the flow rate of 7.2 ml/s and 6.4 ml/s. This time it was 13.5 ml/s. Typically, urine flow runs from 10 ml to 21 ml per second. Every time the appointments were considerably delayed (45min/30min and 30min again). I have the scans with the examination starting times on them for every appointment so it was easy to proof. I had to take time off work and not to mention the stress I had to experience hearing there were problems with my bladder. If I haven't had pushed for the third appointment I might have had to spend more time, money and energy trying to treat a problem that was a result of unprofessionalism of Dr Navin Ramachandran. This was 2 years ago but I still can't get it out of my head as I want to make sure that no one else gets where I was. It was truly stressful and unpleasant experience. I flagged this with the hospital back in 2017 and they sent Dr Dr Navin Ramachandran a letter asking for his thoughts. But I have never received any apology from Dr Navin Ramachandran.
