Two and a half years ago I had surgery to remove a 20 cm long tumour from near my left kidney (also losing my kidney, adrenal gland and spleen). More recently I returned to the surgery with symptoms of numbness in my lower lip and chin and intermittent pain in my left lower jaw. This time it was Dr Monica Kusre that I saw. After a brief examination she picked up on the fact that I had been diagnosed with high cholesterol in the past and sent me for a new test for my cholesterol level. No action was taken about the symptoms I had presented with. Consequently my husband and I took the step of registering with a different surgery, where the senior doctor saw me and referred me to the hospital. Subsequent X-rays and a CT scan have revealed a tumour in my jaw-bone. From further research on the internet we have discovered that this is a fairly common secondary issue for people who have had renal/adrenal tumours, and that numb-chin-syndrome is often an early indication of this problem. However, this was not picked up or even mentioned by the Dr Kusre. I have now been referred back to the oncology team at the Churchill where my original surgery was done, and further tests/treatment are being pursued.
