Absolutely superb. Dr Hughes managed to get to the bottom of a relatively mystery illness just in time for me to be able to get out for the rugby world cup. The best doctor I have ever encountered. Professional, friendly and very clear and understanding.

I saw Dr Hughes regarding an episode of severe depression brought on by my work situation. Although I'd never had a consultation with her previously she quickly got to the nub of my problem and was kind and empathic in how she spoke and discussed my problem. I've had similar excellent experiences with ALL the doctors at this practice. Their professionalism and care has been beyond expectations every time, and over the last 10 years I've been through a whole host of issues from pancreatitis too bleeding ulcers. I trust them all implicitly and Dr Hughes is a very excellent GP.

First time seeing this doctor at this GP. My history was never considered regarding my consultation; I offered but it was irrelevant. The conclusion of the doctor was the chief complaint I arrived with. I already knew what I arrived with. I was told confirming a diagnosis was not how things were done here though they may have been in the US Ex: clinical evaluation and MRI). She said in the US they may do MRI. Actually, an MRI/CT are the only tools to augment clinical findings in the case of suspected cervical nerve damage. The doctor presumed I had knowledge of the US health system. Totally unprofessional to compare my expectations with her bias after explaining I was not satisfied with NOT knowing the source of my injury nor its severity. The doctor preformed a two point sensory discrimination test for possible nerve injury with her fingers, and my eyes open- wrong. The doctor evaluated my left trapeizus muscle as tight, but never checked the other side. I lift weights. They are all hard. The doctor concluded that I may have any number of nerve injuries to my cervical spine but knowing which was not relevant. I stated "you are just throwing medicine at the entire scope of differential diagnosis hoping something sticks? This is not the practice of clinical medicine." I protested that I need to know what is injured and its severity. The doctor then lamented that conservative treatment was just as successful as surgery. I explained I do not want surgery; it was a strawman. Surgery was not my position. I not only never mentioned surgery but abhor surgery. (Another history oversight on her part that was clearly marked on my record. I have had numerous ortho surgeries from military service including HNP!). I never wanted surgery. A false position. In any event, conservative treatment versus surgery is a relevant consideration with a diagnosis, and an appraisal of severity. I had neither. (Generally, the studies actually reveal that in minor to moderate bulging discs or impingement with clinical signs and symptoms of pain and function problems, conservative treatment is as effective as surgery ----70-80% of the time). She was totally wrong in her patronizing in any event! Wrong in medicine is never good, even when flippant or dismissive. She threw medicine at me after already following 4 weeks of conservative treatment for suspected disc herniation/compression without relief. NOTE: I have a diagnosed of degenerative disc disease, multiple bulging and herniated discs, facet joint problems, osteopenia, and cervical stenosis. She included none of this in her topical if not absurd evaluation. She never even removed my shirt to evaluate the scoliosis, hematoma, symmetry, etc. Nothing. My protesting that I wanted a diagnosis was met with her bias regarding the US system. I have not received US care in over 35 years! Appalling. I continue to suffer and am no better off then before. NOTE2: My wife and I have been teaching and practicing medicine for 35 years. Our entire family are doctors/surgeons. My context and appraisal is valid. I would have failed her for her clinical evaluation, patient technique, history taking, subjective background, objective assessment, and differential diagnosis were she my student.
