As a healthcare strategist, I try to think about what we can do to improve healthcare and sometimes get disheartened at the lack of resource or the inertia to drive new care models. However, when I look at frontline clinicians like Dr John, I remain optimistic that we have such a precious healthcare system that could be resilient and transformative and she like others are always innovating when being between a rock and a hard place. We need more of her kind. She reminds me why being a doctor in the NHS is truly a vocation and a calling; it's such a privilege to let patients share their fears and concerns with us and how we can work together as a doctors and patients to deliver health at its best. She reminds me why frontline staff go over and above every day to provide the best care for their patients. Why have I bothered to type this? It's taken me a while to be inspired and be challenged on strategic matters and I wanted to thank her for doing so.
