I saw Matthew after several months of experiencing palpitations and not really finding the necessary advice to judge whether they were serious or not. I anticipated it might not be a useful conversation as my other markers were generally good and the symptoms were persistent but mostly not dramatic. My concerns were raised when symptoms disappeared altogether a fortnight before the appointment. However, I was pleased to find that the appointment was thorough, with no time constraints or sense that I was making a fuss. Matthew asked very precise questions and listened very carefully to my responses. He is professional and respectful without being formal, and explains matters in a comprehensible way. I was given an ECG and an ultrasound and, importantly, Matthew explained my level of risk regarding the likelihood of a stroke given my results - which is small. With a history of strokes in my family, this was one of my fears. Following the appointment, I am enjoying life with renewed confidence, knowing that if symptoms return intermittently, I can monitor them myself via a watch and send results to Matthew who will review them.

I saw Matthew for an ablation and cardioversion to fix an arrhythmia. Matthew and his team were brilliant in all respects - talking me through the process and explaining everything. It's now 12 months since the procedure and I am in normal sinus rhythm, have restarted playing 5 a side football and recently ran a 10k. If I have any further issues in future I would come straight to Matthew - you couldn't wish to be in safer hands.

I benefitted from a very comprehensive session with Matthew where he reviewed all my notes as well as talking through every aspect of the problem I was having. I was given both an ECG and an echocardiogram and these were evidentially professionally and carefully taken. Matthew was able to adjust the complexity of his explanations, either to the more technical level or the lay-person level, according to my own understanding of matters. I felt I had all the time I needed to communicate and discuss issues without any sense that there was a “clock running” on the consultation. In a subsequent discussion two weeks later, Matthew was again thorough and patient in talking through the data and identifying possible next steps.

I first went to see Dr Ginks at The Foscote, Banbury for a consultation back in July after being diagnosed by the GP with Afib. In the last 6 months I have had 2 cardio versions and one ablation. The first cardio version didn’t work at all, the second one worked for 4 days, only before reverting back. 3 months after the ablation, I am still in normal sinus rhythm. For various reasons, I have been treated in 3 Oxfordshire hospitals. For the first cardio version I was treated by a colleague of Dr Ginks, Dr Sabharwal (very nice doctor). I have had 3 consultations- 2 face to face and one on Zoom. In the first consultation Dr Ginks spent time with me discussing the problem and finding out who I was; he is a very good listener. His manner is friendly and reassuring and he is surprisingly self depreciative. His consultations are well structured and backed up by highly detailed notes emailed to me and to the GP. Notes are sent to the GP after any procedures or consultations. He always sends these quickly. After the first consultation, I was relieved to hear that he could help me. He explained his findings clearly so as to make sense of what I was experiencing and why. He described possible paths of treatment that might need to be followed if a treatment didn’t work- a game plan. His approach makes you felt you are being cared for by a medical expert. I think he actually likes people and is genuinely concerned to help them to get better. He has let me go now, but has said I can contact him if I need to. Finally, I was delighted to hear from staff in every hospital -doctors, nurses and anaesthetists that they consider him to be an excellent doctor- there’s a lot of respect from his medical colleagues and he has my respect and gratitude too. I would highly recommend Dr Ginks, cardiologist.
