I suffer from on going allergy symptoms that at their worst affect my everyday life, affecting my skin, lower respiratory, upper respiratory and also affects my hearing. I am nose blind and can no longer taste. I have regularly seen ENT and have seen a Dermatologist. Neither of these consultants have been interested in my symptoms as a whole issue and I was becoming more and more frustrated and disheartened with the situation. I visited Dr Slade last week because of on going asthma, caused by the allergies, and the asthma could not be controlled with Clenil and Ventolin inhalers so I have been regularly prescribed steroids by my own GP. Dr Slade went through all of my symptoms, listened carefully and asked me lots of questions. He drew a mini family tree, parents, siblings and my children and wrote down their allergies. He then listened to my chest and checked my hands and wrists. He then explained very simply that we cannot control the asthma and other symptoms with intermittent steroids but instead we need a long term plan of action. These are the words I have been waiting to hear for the last 15 months! At last, a Doctor that is taking me seriously. He explained in simple terms that as there are no conclusive tests to find out all of the things I am allergic to, we need to control the symptoms and suggested two types of medication, to see which one works best with a review in 8 weeks time. I understood the instructions he gave me with regards to both medications and I left his office feeling positive.

Dr Slade has been tremendously helpful with my treatment and I couldn't have wished for a better doctor. He is professional, highly knowledgeable and takes the time to listen very carefully to get to the bottom of the problem. He has been very kind and understanding, I couldn't have been in better hands. The NHS are really lucky to have such an amazing doctor at Cheltenham.

Dr Slade presented himself as a respectful human being. He clearly saw me as a person, not as a "case" he had to treat. He behaved as a person and with gentle humour. He was kind and his inteligence was used to make me feel he was on my side, not to put him somehow "above" me. He was humble and kind and it was a huge relief. A very rare experience and I am grateful we have people like Dr Slade in the NHS.

He was kind and took great care to explain the results of my scan and show me pictures of the scan from various angles. I felt I was being given quality time. I do not think I could have been given better care. I wish more consultants were like this.
