For an Autism specialist, he seemed to have a laymans understanding of the condition. He told me I couldn't be Autistic because I used an analogy. He obviously didn't understand the difference between a metaphor and an analogy, even though he uses this as a diagnostic tool. He also told me I didn't need the medication I was on, and that it looked "like they're trying to poison you". He made this "diagnosis" after talking to me for about 15 minutes, and with hardly any knowledge of my medical history. Both my psychologist and psychiatrist, who prescribed the medication, agreed that he shouldn't have said this and that it was extremely unprofessional. He made the statement based on nothing, and offered no alternative, so it was also really unhelpful too. From my experience, he seems to be more interested in his twitter account than keeping up to date with the latest understanding around ASD. Also, the report from the assessment he and his team carried out contained zo many errors it was unbelievable. When I spoke to them about this, I was told I could send them the correct information/facts, but they wouldn't have a bearing on the outcome of my diagnosis, essentially saying they weren't bothered about facts, they had an opinion and no amount of evidence to the contrary would change that. I've since been told by 3 seperate Dr's that they've had many complaints regarding Adamou and his team, and because of this, I've been re-referred to Sheffield for a 2nd opinion, wasting both mine and the NHS's time and money purely because he and his team did such a poor job initially. If you are referred to him, I advise you ask to have it changed to a different team. It took 2 years from my initial referral to getting my results. Now I'm at the back of another 18 month - 2 year queue, all because of his and his teams incompetence.
