I’ve had the pleasure of being treated by Dr Dalal for the past few years. Most recently our paths crossed at my most urgent time of need. Having gone to the Alexandra medical centre suffering rigors after an innocuous skin puncture, Dr Dalal saw something very wrong despite normal vitals and insisted I go directly to hospital. This was seconded by Dr Lloyd. When assessed by A&E it was discovered I had bacterial endocarditis. The treatment was open heart surgery to remove a large (1.3cm) vegetation and repair the mitral valve. Three months later and after successful surgery, six weeks of antibiotic treatment in hospital and (GP prescribed) cardiac rehab, I feel back to my usual self. Malvika showed great compassion calling me when I was in hospital to follow up and the aftercare I have received once discharged from I.D. care has been exemplary. Without early intervention my prognosis would have been significantly worse. There’s no doubt in my mind, Dr Dalal’s actions helped to save my life. She is an extraordinary physician, a huge credit to the NHS and deserving of high praise.
