I saw Dr Lucy Ward the consultant in pain management at the Royal Free Hospital. I had previously had a steroid injection in my knee at another clinic via my GP. I waited many months to see Dr Ward and when I did see her she said she would put me on the waiting list for a steroid injection in my lower back on the right side. I waited 9 months and heard nothing. I chased up to see how much longer I had to wait for the appointment and managed finally to get an appountment. A steroid injection was administered in the right side of my.lowrr back. Dr Ward told me that if the steroid injection didnt work there were other treatments, I think she mentioned decompression. The injection did not work and not only did it not work but the pain in my right knee came back on the same day. Up until then the steroid injection in my right knee administeted elsewhere had worked and it was wonderful to be pain free at least in my knee. Dr Ward seemed to have changed her mind about 'other treatments' and the only advice she gave me was to eat an anti inflammotory diet and refer me for physiotherapy. Physiotherapy at Finchley Memorial Hospital which I was already having has not been helpful even though I do the exercises prescribed at home. I try to walk most days but I have to apply Volterol and take a pain killer before I try to walk any distance and I do suffer pain when walking. I am 74 and I am desparate to keep mobile. Most days I eat salad and porridge or Weetabix in the morning. So all in all I can say that the Pain Clinic at the Royal Free was not much help to me.

I had an appointment with Dr. Ward on the 21st August this year regarding my lower back pain. She pressed on several places & if that hurt at all she injected a steroid. Contrary to expectations & promises my back is much more painful than it was & I have less ability to walk than before. I am really disappointed & disgusted by this. I would not recommend Dr. Ward to anyone.

The best GP I have ever seen, don't want to change the GP practice only because of her, she really listens to a patient, i'm impressed by her knowledge and professionalism.

Unfortunately Dr Ward has believed it as an acceptable form of treatment to download various mobile apps, YouTube videos and even on one occasion suggested a podcast as a form of treatment. I find she lacks empathy, and is very patronising and dismissive. I appreciate the constraints of the NHS but she really does herself and the GP surgery a disservice with he patient manner. Its almost as if she has given up and perhaps lost her passion as GP. Perhaps she means well.... but i have had several appointments with her and been unhappy and had to seek second opinions so unfortunately i cant recommend her services
