I have known Dr. Leaver for several years while a student at the university and I have seen him regularly as part of treatment for a chronic illness. From first to last, I couldn't have asked for better. He has understood my condition more comprehensively than any other doctor I have seen; its initial diagnosis was aided by him noticing and suggesting things that other doctors hadn't; and throughout treatment he has always been on the ball, ready with poignant insight even when so many other people in the complex process of healthcare (through no great fault of their own) let important things slip through the cracks. He has also always been pleasant to talk to and actively helpful beyond what you might expect of the average doctor.

I have known Dr Leaver probably getting on for twenty years, both as a patient of his, and as a fellow of one of the Oxford colleges that he and his partners look after. His combination of sharp observation and clued-up-ness without jumping to the first readily-to-hand conclusion, his gentle humour, his unhurriedness and patience, his considerateness and openness with his patients -- these are some of the things that spring immediately to mind and make one feel extraordinarily fortunate to be in his care. FRCP + FRCGP is already promising as a combination -- with Laurence it IS experience and expertise made flesh / the utterly humane appliance of science. He's excellent with young people too, supportive and prepared to stick up for them. It's good news for the next generation of GPs that he's involved in their development as well. It's worth adding, I think, that he's a member of a historically first-class practice team, the tone of which was set by Michael Kenworthy-Browne, and is now represented, along with Laurence, by the splendid Judy Bogdanor, together with Mark O'Shea.

I became acquainted with Dr. Leaver, when my daughter, a student at the University of Oxford needed medical care. Her condition was serious, required complex decision making and much care coordination. Dr. Leaver was exceptional in all these areas. Not only is he exceptional as a physician, but as a person as well. Until I could arrive in Oxford, we spoke on the phone and via email (with my daughter's permission). He kept me updated each step of the way. I am a Family Medicine physician in the United States but am also a Medical Director for a large group (over 500) independent physicians. One of my roles is to measure the quality of care given by Specialist and General physicians. I can tell you without hesitation that Dr. Leaver is by far one of the most incredible physicians ~ Specialist or General Practice that I have had the privilege to interact with. The United Kingdom and his patient's are fortunate to have him.

I can't recommend Dr Leaver enough to prospective patients. He combines amazing intellect, skill and observation with compassion and ethics. He's simply a few cuts above any G.P. I've seen and I feel grateful to be his patient.

Profile

I was a full time GP from 1996 (reduced to 3/4 time when I became Associate Director of Pre-clinical Studies in 2017) and also involved in teaching medical students since 2000, particularly at Green Templeton College (since 2004) where I am the Senior Doll Tutorial Fellow in charge of the GTC medical teaching programme for about 100 students. As College Doctors to various colleges my practice has particular interests in university students and their medical problems; but students are only 30% of our list and we aim to be good generalists across all areas of medicine. Please also bear in mind there are two separate practices at Jericho HC (I work with Drs O'Shea, Lambert and others), the other practice is 'Observatory medical Practice')- sometimes people have mixed us up. Also we are on the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter (since 2012) adjacent to Walton Street, whereas Googlemaps and indeed this website keep directing people to our old site about 200m away on the corner of Cranham Street.
