This review is from the point of view of myself, Shaun Keenan, and my mother Brenda Keenan concerning the care and treatment given to my dad, John Keenan, who for the last five years had suffered from vasculare dementia as well as paralysis from a stroke he had twenty four years ago. Dr Mather has been the family GP for a number of years and has helped both my mam and I with various issues regarding ourselves and my dad, always with understanding and care that made our lives easier. When my dad was diagnosed with dementia caring for him became even greater and more difficult and stressful for us but with Dr Mathers help, advice and support we were able to cope and plan for any further deterioration in his condition. Dr Mather helped get us get a support system in place which involved pairing us with Paul Burn, CPN nurse based at Bensham Hospital, who along with the doctor has been amazing. Paul himself told us he has never worked alongside a GP like Dr Mather, he always mentioned how good she is in his visits. We have had regular home visits and it was Dr Mather who recommended Chase Park nursing home as possible residential care should we need it. My dad did end up going there and for three months me and my mam had quality time with him. My dad died two weeks ago. We couldn't have managed without her and hopefully this goes someway as a thank you for everything she has done for us.
