I was seen by Jurate Venteriene at Kingston Upon Thames hospital. I found her very abrupt. She wanted me to sign a consent form without her filling in any sedation notes. I had to ask her for sedation as I was lying on the bed where I was getting my procedure done. I have had a colonoscopy before so I know how it should feel. This one was very uncomfortable and rough and she failed to remove a polyp. She had to get assistance from other consultants. I do not believe I received sedation as requested and it was so painful that I was eventually given gas and air. Her bedside manner is not good and I would not like to be treated by her again.
PS What does "I identify with" mean below? I have had to choose I prefer not to say as it's a very strange question.
I felt Dr Venteriene and her team provided excellent care. She has a kind and friendly manner and explained that I would need sedation because of deep scarring in my abdomen from surgery. The procedure was conducted sensitively. I spent about 3 hours at the hospital with IV fentanyl for sedation/ pain relief during the procedure and was well cared for by the nurse afterwards.
Great care
I have received a wonderful care from Dr. Venteriene and this doctor was very caring and reassuring with excellent care, very understanding. I was always on time, I underwent 2 investigations and overwall was excellent and lot easier than I thought it would be.
This doctor carried out my extremely painful colonscopy. She firstly did not explain the procedure. I had to actually ask her about it before signing the consent form, which she just handed to me and told me to sign. I opted to have the procedure without sedation because this hospital only offered IV sedation and no Entonox and I didn't want to be at the hospital for 5 hours. I had IV painkillers that were not effective. I felt every movement not helped by the doctor's abruptness and constantly dismissing my pain, instead telling me to turn over while I screamed out in pain or blaming my "loopy colon". She also seemed to be annoyed when I asked her to stop while I caught my breathe for a minute before continuing. Hearing that "you are safe" is not helpful for patients experiencing uncontrollable pain. The only good service was from the postoperative nurses who gave me instructions and who were sympathetic when I vomited after the procedure from the pain and from having not eaten for 36 hours. I would definitely not recommend this doctor.
