I can only confirm what everyone else has commented, a genuinely compassionate GP and a great asset to the NHS!
Summary: Dr Andrews is a cross between the Hippocratic Oath and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious personified.
Pros: Dr Andrews has a number of interesting qualities and skills vital for those working in any people-oriented profession. She has a welcoming presence, and a gentle, caring demeanour which, along with a quiet sense of humour, transforms the usual clinical setting into a more inviting space. Her active listening skills enable her to put the patient at ease through attentive body language, maintaining good eye-contact, responding appropriately, focusing completely, and asking questions for clarification where necessary. As a result, whether one is infirm, or of sound mind and body, one feels worthy of her time and attention; appreciated in being able to share one’s health concerns, and respected as an individual. This is rare, given that doctors are short on time, compared to say, those in the counselling profession where an appointment is much longer than the routine 10 minutes at a GP surgery.
Dr Andrews’ warmth, sympathy-empathy and understanding, combined with her objective, reflective, interpretive and decisional thinking skills, means she is respected for the genuine commitment to her patients. When speaking with her, you sense she is operating through wisdom and compassion (i.e. not just abstract intelligence, but knowledge fruitfully applied). For all of the above and more, Dr Andrews is rightly esteemed and regarded with much affection.
Cons: Very difficult to get an appointment in advance over the telephone or via the online booking system due to high popularity with patients. One must be willing to attend on the day and to get an appointment one must phone early in the morning (8.30 am) – and even then it’s with the hope that someone else has cancelled!
Dr Andrews actually listens to her patients
Dr Andrews takes time to listen and appears to genuinely care for her patients.
Julie is an excellent doctor: a good listener, friend, and very informal. She cares about people greatly.
