Written by a patient at Glenfield Hospital
19th January 2019

Dr Skehan sent me to Papworth Hospital in1997 with a view to a heart transplant. This I received on 9 January 1998. I have just celebrated 21 years and had my second 21st birthday surrounded by very good friends having a lunch. I made the toast myself - firstly thanking God then the unknown Donor. Would like here to thank Dr Skehan personally for the initial care he gave me in Glenfield Hospital all those years ago and for the life I have had and am still having and intend having. October 2017 I went to New York this coming September 2019 I am hoping to go out to South Africa where I shall go to Cape Town (I have been before) go up Table Mountain and go and stand outside the hospital in Cape Town (The Great Barn as it is called) where Christian Bernard performed the first heart transplant. Thank you Dr Skehan. - Margaret Ward
